Megatron's deal heaps pressure on ... Saints

Saints really need to do this. Brees has been such a stand-up guy (ok, with the exception of his "lack of knowledge" of the bounty scandal) for New Orleans. He's been their Manning. Sorry, Archie.

As good as Megatron is, his contract with the Lions really screws up the salary structure for the whole league. Now, every diva wideout is going to want that kind of money, and they'll go off and pout when they don't get it. The caps aren't going up fast enough to accomodate these monster salaries, so teams are going to have a hard time keeping all their top players, and they're going to have to low-ball the rest of the team, too.

Sean Payton just put a bounty on Calvin's head.

This is why nobody was buying what the owners were selling during the lockout. As in all sports the owners always fail to take accountability for their stupid actions.

On the car radio, the guy from NPR's Only a Game was talking about that, and the suggestion from a listener that they take away the Super Bowl trophy from the Saints.

But what would they do with it? Give it to the Colts? Or should they go back further, take away the NFC title that year and give it to the Vikings? Even better, they could re-constitute the Colt and Viking teams from 2009 and have them re-play the game. Wouldn't that be a spectacle?

That Megatron deal is just crazy. Somebody needs to restore sanity to the marketplace. Where are the Autobots when you need them?

Exactly. And, watching NFL Network last night, Baldinger called it. The last time Brees got the franchise tag, he was nearly bounced out of the league with the shoulder injury.

When is Goodell going to pull the trigger on the Saints, all we hear about is Peyton?

I HATE how contracts are reported.
The ONLY number that means diddly bop is the guaranteed money part and the signing bonus.
He gets the guaranteed part the first three years, the last two years are voidable. His cap number for this year went down $8 million dollars.
He will NEVER see much of that other $80 million.

Does Brees want to beat PM and Brady in a salary game, or does he want to beat them on the field?
I would think the qb who wants to win games would be interested in having decent players to play with - the reported difference in salary Brees wants would have (nearly) paid for Nicks

This was a cap move as much as anything.
He was to count $19 million this year against the cap, now he only counts $12 million. ( close enough )

The Ginger Dictator has never been one to act in haste. The news only broke a few weeks back.

He may wait and announce his decision later this month, when the sports media is in a frenzy over college basketball, so this bad-image news gets buried in the hoopla over hoops.

maybe Goodell is waiting for the spring floods - sounds like he would like to throw the offenders in the Mississippi, and if they don't sink, Goodell will burn them at the stake.
