Setback in Toews' recovery

08:26 AM ET 03.16 | What a difference a week makes for Jonathan Toews, who is now all too familiar with the murky recovery from concussion. It was late last week when [Toews] flashed a grin following his fourth consecutive day of skating and shared his optimism for rejoining the lineup a couple of days later. On Thursday, Toews was off the ice for the third time in four days, and the optimism has been challenged by worry that the center could be out quite awhile longer. ... Other than a short time on the ice Wednesday, Toews has taken a step back in his recovery from a concussion that will sideline the 23-year-old for his 12th game in a row when the Hawks face the Stars on Friday night in Dallas.

Not good if you are a Hawks fan or enjoy hockey for that matter.

So now a whole spate of Toews injury updates? Great...this should mesh well all summer wiht the "Where is Nash going", will selanne retire" and of course, the daily IRK updates.....

Wonder who Nick Backstrom has ticked off? Nothing about him for quite a while.

Toews has been really worrisome lately. He keeps looking around urgently while yelling "WHERE'S MY CUP?! WHO TOOK STANLEY FROM ME?! WAS IT YOU KESSEL?!"

March 16, 2012  09:15 AM ET

at least Sid is back so we dont have the daily "what Sid had for breakfast" updates. Hopefully Backstrom gets back soon, he is needed! maybe they wont give me such heart problems by having to come back from 2 or 3 goals down all the time.

Id say Kessel would hide in corner but I know better

I really hope the NHL gets its act together in regards to concussions. Bettman is in complete denial.

and many other things too

Why? It's all part of hockey. These are hockey plays that result in these injuries. No need to take any action.

If he thinks Phil has the Cup his concussion is worse than Sid's.

Gotta agree with you there. You can't legislate the NHL into a non-contact league and whenever you have bodies colliding you have a chance of an injury. The players themselves have to learn to pull back a little when they see someone in a vulnerable position. I've noticed that some are starting to do that already. Hopefully its the start of a trend so we can keep the action but cut down on the concussions.

I have repeated this time and time again, and I get flamed for it. So good luck with that. It isn't too much to ask for some sportsmanship and respect.

You're right though. They can still hit the guy, but they don't need to drive him into next week.
