09:24 AM ET 03.17 | The Dolphins' chances of signing Matt Flynn could be helped by Peyton Manning, of all people, in this regard: Because Manning is now considering the 49ers, the Seahawks might wait to see what happens with 49ers free agent quarterback Alex Smith before offering a big contract to Flynn. The 49ers have held off on signing Smith while awaiting a decision from Manning.

I like they way Manning gets worked into every story....

"Man bit by dog.....Manning seen walking in the area...."

I wondered how long it would take before the 49ers entered this circus... They are the one NFC team that could benefit the most from a upgrade at QB.

It is interesting, you have to admit.
Reminds me of the old math problem: How many possibilities are there if ......

The funny part is IF the 49ers do not get Peyton Manning, how does the coach tell Alex Smith again how much confidence he has in him?
That would take some serious vaseline.

How does Denver's coach tell Tebow how much confidence he has in him? Same scenario.

The Niners would be NFC favorites to reach the Super Bowl if they signed Manning.

I agree, but is Manning or Flynn an upgrade for the Niners??? IMO Smith is better than Flynn and Manning is one hit away from the wheelchair!!!

Man, they would be really, seriously good with Manning. I agree with you. I'm surprised they waited this long.

Smith should be used to this by now. It seems like he's been looking over his shoulder for the majority of the time he's been with the 49ers.

Wouldn't that be "Man bit by dog, Manning hits dog with thrown football, dog runs off with football" ?

Does SF have the cap space to sign PM and Smith, with Smith getting backup pay and incentives if he becomes a starter?

Maybe they would have to extend his contract like the Jets did with Sanchez to salve his bruised ego...

The Browns are to cheap to do anything! Holmgren should be fired!!!!!

Any team that's "waiting on" Alex Smith should, perhaps, reassess their organizational game plan.

Why do you say that??? At least Smith is an NFL starter and his last 3 years have been decent. What has Flynn did for you lately?? The big question is, "does the Niners want a QB, Manning, that will play only 2/3 more years, if he's lucky"???
