08:55 AM ET 03.17 | The Bears remain in communication with running back Matt Forte, but general manager Phil Emery couldn't offer a signal Friday that the sides have made progress on a long-term contract. Emery said: "We continue to work with Matt and his agent in that effort. I'm not going to get into details, but we continue to work with each other to find common ground."

For all Forte has done for the Bears, they should just ask, "So, how much do you want?" and then sign on the dotted line.

Forte carried the team on his back last season.

Forte should have been a priority over Brandon Marshall.

Heck yes.

Forte is one of the top five RB's in the league in my opinion. He also has good hands and is a threat as a receiver.

+10

Forte made a few comments about a new deal before the start of the 2011 season, and then was mum about it... did his talking on the field, like a pro should. I was hoping they'd have something worked out by now... I really didn't want them the put the franchise tag on Forte; he certainly deserves a long-term deal. There is still time though. As long as they can get something worked out by training camp. As much as both sides probably don't want, this will be a big distraction if the two sides don't get something done by training camp; that's just how the media likes it.

He did come out and say he was concerned they were going to get him injured, grinding him to the bone the way they did. I would think he might have a little grudge now.

Hang in there Matt, remember what Denver did to Floyd Little, three years of "little to the left, Little to the right, Little up the middle, punt" He went into the hall of Fame last year

you beat me to it; Forte has been the backbone of the team, Marshall is an idiot, who do they give priority to?

Good to see the new GM is brighter than the old one. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

It's Chicago. You have to actually ask?

They figure if Forte is franchised and they up the franchise figure - and give him a goodly amount of $$$ up front - he'll fall into the basket. I think he's pissed about last year and he and his agent are getting revenge. I do see them getting it done eventually - if the stupid **** McCaskeys do what's right by Forte. (Remember, it's them who ultimately make decisions. Northshore ****.)

The "stupid is as stupid does" circus is in full swing in Chicago. Jerry Angelo's gone but ... little else has changed. They open their wallets for a criminally minded hood but refuse to reward a guy that carried them on his shoulders the last couple of years. What gives? How can any rational GM not sign Forte? What are they waiting for? DUMB!

Reward the man Emery, he's earned it.
