Tebow's job not safe even if Manning rejects Broncos

10:49 AM ET 03.18 | Tim Tebow, one of the most outwardly competitive athletes to rumble across the hash marks, bunkers silently as the Broncos attempt to take his job away and give it to Peyton Manning. If the Tennessee Titans get Manning, the expectation is they would release Matt Hasselbeck. Would the Broncos replace their quest for a quarterback who will turn 36 on Saturday for a quarterback who is 36 now? If the 49ers get Manning, then Alex Smith transforms from free agent returning to his old club to free agent in play for everybody else. And if the Broncos don't get Manning, and they decide against Hasselbeck and Smith, do they then set their sights on Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden in the draft? Weeden -- more than Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins and Brock Osweiler -- will be ready to play on Day One.

When a QB only completes 47.3% of his passes his job shouldn't be safe.

If that makes me a hater for holding Tim Tebow to the same standards as every other QB in the league then so be it. But completing less than half your passes is not good.

Interesting. He should go to the Jaguars.

Weeden???

Look - just because the dude is almost 30 does not mean he is ready to play in the NFL...

Alex Smith is visiting the Miami Dolphins today.

Tebow's job not safe even if Manning rejects Broncos...never was - the Bronco vote of confidence extended only to opening of off-season training

The only thing for certain is that this dance is going to play out like musical chairs and some teams are going to seriously overpay at the QB position.

Lots of poker play going on right now; who holds all the cards: players or owners?

March 18, 2012  11:10 AM ET

Typical of Miami going in that direction.

Osweiler shouldn't be an option for anybody based on his performance last year; Cousins might be, but is probably a bench-sitter for awhile. Tannehill seems a weaker choice, especially in terms of passing stats. Weeden has impressive passing stats and was a hell of a leader on the field. The statement, "ready to play more than (these others)," would appear justified.

Not safe? I will tell you who is not safe, the cheerleaders when Tebow drops back to throw or anybody in the first four rows of any seat, that is who is not safe.

ITS THE OFF SEASON THERE ARE MORE THINGS AND TOPICS WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT , NOT TEDOW! TRADED HIM TO MAIMI! OR CUT HIM JUST GET HIM OFF THE AIR! THANKS ESPN!

March 18, 2012  12:59 PM ET

NFL = Not For Long. No one's job is safe. Heck, the Colts cut Manning. Tebow is the Broncos starter until and only until the Broncs get someone else who can QB the team to more wins.

March 18, 2012  01:10 PM ET

Tebow's job hasn't been safe since the moment Josh McDaniels was run out of town.

So very true. Tebow has NEVER fit in with Elway's philosophy about what a QB should be on the team, and it was only when Tebow was winning that he tolerated the mania surrounding him. Now the Manning hunt is giving him the chance to nip that in the bud befoe it goes out of control next year.

March 18, 2012  01:42 PM ET

Not surprising. Elway has been looking for a way to get rid of Tebow even during the height of Tebowmania last year.

March 18, 2012  01:44 PM ET

Please don't take our beloved Alex away from us.

Just trying to do his job. If your goal is to be entertaining , the Tebow is your answer, but even the circus gets old after a while.

If a shoe salesman can't identify a shoe from a sock his job shouldn't be safe.

You know, that was somehow worked into this morning's sermon.
