Book: Tiger's marriage cooled quickly

11:33 AM ET 03.18 | Marriage between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren quickly stagnated into a "calm, almost cool relationship" in which the golfer's wife became conditioned to keeping her emotions in check whenever he won, according to more excerpts from former coach Hank Haney's book. Selected passages from "The Big Miss" were included in a New York Times review of the book, available in stores March 27, and a subsequent blog post on the Times' website. Woods and Nordegren already were engaged when Haney was hired in 2004, with the wedding taking place that October. "But as life became more complicated," Haney wrote, "I thought Elin changed. By the time she and Tiger married, she remained friendly but had become more guarded, even in her own home. She and Tiger developed a calm, almost cool relationship in front of other people, and conversations with them tended to be awkward and strained." The dynamic began to change just three months into the marriage, Haney suggested, after Woods won at Torrey Pines for his first stroke-play victory in nearly 16 months.

That tournament Harry is just 20 miles from where I live. Ernie had a meltdown on the last 2 holes. It was interesting how Donald had the worst drive of the playoff on the 18th, but had the best approach shot.

Fuhryk came reaL close to dropping that 26 foot putt that would have negated a playoff. I was pulling for him. If Goosen had a healthy back that tourney may have been his for the taking.

I did to but, I was glad for Donald. Man, did Els looked shell-shocked. You'd think he just walked out of a WWI trench somewhere in France. That's what happens when the over 40 crowd thinks they've still got it. On to Bay Hill. There should be some teeth nashing at that course with Showboat and Phil being there.

Let's pretend that I am an aspiring young golf pro with lots of game. There is no chance I hire Haney because of his recent history of airing personal information on his students. That was a bad long term move Mr. Haney.

I have to agree with you. You don't have to be a Tiger fan to know that Haney just delivered a cheap shot to make a few bucks. I know I would never trust him and I doubt anyone else would either.

Unfortunately, they probably did and figured this looked ok. Agree with comments on Haney but he lost all credibility once he started that TV show. If he can't even improve a swing as horrendous as Barkley's then how good of a teacher can he be?

Sad that an exciting final day of the tournament with 6 players tied for the lead at one point and three in the playoffs garner nothing, but Haney tidbits on Tiger get priority.
