If Alex Smith were that smart and rational he would've come to this conclusion a lot sooner, like everybody else did.

Really, how can Condon negotiate with the Niners for both Smith and Manning? It's a conflict of interest. And how can Condon look Smith in the eye after this?

Eff 'em both, Mr. Smith. Get a new agent and sign somewhere else. See how Mr. Ed and In-Bred Jed like looking for a quarterback this late in the game.

If Smith is smart and rational, how can he pay this agent that stabbed him in the back?

If Peyton signs with someone not named 49ers, and smith signs with someone not named 49ers, then who, not named, is the 49er QB?

As the market dries up, his value goes up. supply/demand.

An apparent conflict of interest. The Niners offered Smith a contract before Manning was even released by the Colts. Smith rejected the offer. I wonder if his agent advised him to reject that offer because he viewed San Francisco as a potential location for Manning to continue his career. That's the kind of thing that spawns lawsuits.
