Was Amaro deceived over Utley injury?

08:25 AM ET 03.20 | MRIs can only go so far. An MRI might show what is going on inside Chase Utley's knees. It can't tell us what's going on inside his head. An MRI might show what is going on inside Chase Utley's knees. It can't tell us what's going on inside his head. Forced to honor Utley's wish for privacy, the Phillies have come off looking less than honest with those same fans. Utley's entire spring training program has been conducted under a cloud, and that cloud turned into a thunderhead with GM Ruben Amaro Jr.'s announcement that things aren't going so well with Utley's "bad knees." What Amaro says matters much less than what Amaro does, however. Was he fooled into thinking Utley would be ready to go on opening day?

Utley has missed 106 games the last two years. How can Amaro be surprised? No one else is.

Until Aces start missing time, it makes no difference.
I'm anxious to see how Galvis is going to pan out at 2nd. Everyone has been talking the past year or two about the Phil's having to get younger... Well, with Hunny-poo, Mayberry, and Galvis poised to be a solid part of the line-up, at least early on, it's definately getting younger.
Hopefully without Howard and Utley in the line-up, they'll finally get to playing small-ball and winning games.

Pretty much everything. All the tissue in the body, blood vessels, bone, joints, soft body parts like your liver, you name it. Uses radio waves. Very accurate.

The arcticle gives us no reason to support the idea that Amaro was deceived.

Who cares? He has bad knees. I am not sure why the fans chose to believe that a chronic knee problem miraculously goes away. Or that an achillies tendon repair surgery can be rehabbed in 5 or 6 months. Injuries are bad. mmm K.

Oh, he's forgotten until he learns how to use two hands and actually CATCH a routine fly ball. Shame, such wasted offensive talent simply because he won't pull his head out of his ass and work on baseball fundamentals.
The Big Poker (Rube) has done more to fill the stadium than anyone in the organization in my 26 years of life. He's the reason the Phillies have been in top 3 in home attendance in the past 2 or 3 years. They finished this season with not only the best record, but the best attendance in baseball. 204 sellouts, dating back to 2009, is (last I checked) only second most consecutive sellouts to Fenway?
Ruben Amaro Jr has obviously put together both a winning team and a team that appeals to the city. Grant it, the team is old, and power is dropping, but he's finally addressed the cry for pitching that this fan-base has been screaming out for the past few decades. It's on the coaches and players, not the GM to shift towards playing small-ball if the power is no longer in the line-up.

One thing that I find particularly interesting about the Phillies' run of success is that they began in 2007 it as a big hitting/weak pitching team and proceeded to transform themselves into a big pitching/average hitting team without losing a step.
During that five year transformation, they still averaged 95 wins/season, won five divisional titles, two pennants and a championship. That's remarkable.
Lord knows I am highly critical of the Howard contract, I understand that the Phillies were likely considering more than on-field performance when they inked it. Anyone who thinks Amaro should be canned is a stupid moron.
