Are the Wings ... fragile?

08:40 AM ET 03.20 | What a difference a month makes for the Red Wings, who without their headlining regulars, lost their fifth straight and are suddenly hearing boos at Joe Louis Arena. [It's] hard to believe it was exactly a month ago those same fans had this building shaking in what turned out to be the last win in the Red Wings' record-setting 23-game home streak. In the 13 games since that 3-2 triumph over San Jose, Detroit is 3-8-2. And with that in mind, it's no wonder coach Mike Babcock was talking about the "fragile" state of his injury-riddled team's psyche coming off a winless road trip. "I don't know what your definition of fragile is, but in pro sports I think confidence is fleeting," Babcock said after the loss.

They must be tired from carrying around all of that class. (not facetious at all. EVERY organisation should be like this)

I don't know if they are fragile or old. I'm not a big wings fan (still stings what they did to the Pens in 08) so I'll just say they will probably have it all back together when they start the playoffs.

Every team goes through their dings and lulls during the season. I'll remember, for Burgh-Fan's sake, that the Wings had a skid towards the end of the '08 season. And then the Mule went on a March tear and they cruised to the Cup. They're just in the middle of some unfortunate injuries and it will take some time to get the flow going again. But having said that, it's very important for them to at least gain the 4th seed; they are not good on the road.

They have been dinged a lot lately and that home streak probably put more pressure on them than they realized. In any event, I think they'll be fine once the play-offs start. Go all the way? I don't know..........but it's possible.

Oh by that time Mule was missing time because of a concusion, only to have Gary Roberts punch him in the head in a scrum during his first game back (he had a good career, but that's all I'm going to remember of Roberts), so the Mule didn't really tear you guys up. But they still won the Cup. Is that the best of times, worst of times you were talking about?

Here we go. Where do people usually punch each other when in a scrum? Face/head area? I mean if they aren't Sid who likes to punch ya in the apple bags?
I was talking of losing the cup that year...on our home ice. That's all. Worst of times.

When you are a fan of a team like the Wings have been for the last score of years, it is easy to become complacent (and even arrogant). I would like to remind all WingNuts (and fans of other clubs, too) that the Wings had a depressing era - that of the Dead Things.
I was a WingNut throughout the Dead Things era and I am one in the era of the Motown Monsters. The Wings may yet recover this season and/or next or their position in the NHL for the last twenty years may be changing. In either case I will continue to wave the red and white flag of the Winged Wheel.

Sorry Wings fans but Jimmy Howard isn't Vernon, Hasek or even Osgood for that matter.

Too many bad memories of 2008. Just going to sit and stare at my picture of Fluery making the last save in the 2009 Stanley Cup. . . . . .

That's funny considering 95% of the issue has nothing to do with the way Howard plays, but with the way they're playing in front of him. If they don't pick up the def game....they'll be done in the first round. PP is terrible and being dinged up is no excuse for how poorly they've been playing

Heh I was at the last game of the cup in, I think it was 98. I have disliked the wings since. I can sympathize about losing the cup on home ice. It just.. sucks.
that being said, when they can get some of their players back they should be ok for the playoffs, unless maybe they meet san jose in the first round.

But just the same, not pointing this out to bash the Penguins, but...this is what they're talking about when people say that the players have to respect the game and their follow players. I did not remember it correctly, it wasn't in a scrum, Roberts skated past him and punched him in the side of the head, knowing full well he just came back from a concussion. A lot of people like him, but I'll remember Roberts for that bush-league move. As people have said, the players have to start respecting each other before concussions will start to go down. Again before anyone jumps, not Penguin bashing, just Gary Roberts bashing.

With Helm missing the Wings lose some of the hard fastest skating on the ice. But I don't worry about the Wings, they have given much pleasure to the fans for the last twenty plus years.
