[The school] wants to take a run at Marquette coach Buzz Williams to fill its open men's basketball position, according to multiple sources. While luring Williams, who has deep area and Texas roots and whose Golden Eagles play Florida in the Sweet 16 on Thursday, certainly seems like a long shot, it also reveals the ambition of SMU. ... Going after Williams, a Van Alstyne native, means SMU boosters have agreed to pony up big money for the right candidate. Doherty made in the $500,000 range. Williams reportedly makes $2 million at Marquette. He also reportedly has a large buyout that may have hindered any possibilities [at Texas A&M or Oklahoma].

Can't see it but stranger things have happened. If he's from Van Alstyne, he knows SMU might get 2,000 fans to a game at Moody...and that's if they bring in a big name school.

Arky took a shot at him before signing Anderson last year. From what I remember he has a $2.5+ million buyout. He's also compensated well. IMO, he won't be leaving Marquette unless it's for a top 20 job, and SMU isn't that, IMO.
