08:25 AM ET 03.21 | Lance Berkman might have made a headline or two on Tuesday when he mentioned that he'd been trying to talk Andy Pettitte out of retirement, but that was overshadowed. [Berkman] said Tuesday that Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig "extorted" new Houston Astros owner Jim Crane into changing leagues as a precondition of the sale of the franchise in November. ... The Astros have played in the National League since their inception as the Houston Colt .45's in 1962. Berkman raised the stakes before a Grapefruit League game between the Cardinals and Astros in Kissimmee, telling ESPN.com and a reporter from another outlet, "I feel basically like the commissioner extorted Jim Crane into moving the Astros."

Kind of like what free agents and their agents do when they negotiate contracts?

Hope Lance has his checkbook ready...that one's gonna cost a few bucks.

March 21, 2012  09:16 AM ET

He should direct his anger at the team owner.
MLB dropped the sale price by $70 million dollars to Jim Crane and in return he move his team to the AL. Ask Crane what else he got.

Correct. Someone needs to explain to Lance extortion is when they take something to you. Crane was bribed with $70MM to agree to the move. I wish someone would bribe me with a few million to move.

Should have been the Brewers moving back to the AL. Selig can eat a d|ck.

Berkman to get fined, news at 11.

March 21, 2012  10:29 AM ET

Their current doormat status made the move that much easier, and much less noticable. It would have been much harder to pull off 5 years ago

Wurd on that street is that is already happening

ORLY?

Lance should be Happy about the Astros in the AL...

Now he can go back and DH without clogging up a defensive spot.

March 21, 2012  04:12 PM ET

Um, it's called business. Crane wanted money. The cost of the money was the move. Last place is the same in the AL as it is in the NL. Besides, Berkman ain't in Houston any more. Who gives a rat's hiney?
