08:26 AM ET 03.21 | The Daniel Bard Experiment continues. A few days ago, Bobby Valentine approached [Bard] with a simple and direct question: "Are you still committed to starting?" "Oh yeah," Bard replied. "Until you tell me something different, I'm a starter in my own mind." For now, the Red Sox manager isn't ready to say much of anything. Bard remains the frontrunner to be the team's No. 4 starter, but asked yesterday if he is ready to put the right-hander in the rotation, Valentine said, "I'm not there yet." Physically, Bard said he felt fine after throwing 83 pitches in five innings, both spring highs, in [Tuesday] night's 9-2 Grapefruit League loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

I'm guessing Bard will start the season as a starter and may move to the bullpen if he goes through a rough patch. Hopefully he doesn't have a similar path as Joba did in NY.

Valentine circus continues

That it does. Not many managers hang their players out to dry in the press. But Valentine will in a heartbeat.

This goes beyond Valentine. Fans of the Sox and fans of the game are wondering if ownership put the right pieces together to fill in the #4 and #5 spots in the rotation. So far the jury is still out, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

It's gonna be real tough to put Aceves back in the bull pen. He's pitched as good as anybody in camp. IMO, he's earned a spot in the rotation.

I am not Bard supporter, he has goofed so many games over the years, it feels like every time he enters its a lip biter, oh boy here we go again, long ball , ball hit down line winning run scores, game over, it was as tremmbling as have Papelbon in there, you never know what your going to get, I do not think they take it serious enough to play the game, like if the batters are going to lay down for them, well it does not work that way, they better see that very quickly, or they will be sent down or let go, I would really think on that one, they both in their careers need major mental rehab, they lost all focus, concentration for the game and better turn it around quick

Yes, and considering how slowly he's healed in the past, there's a good chance he has made his last start in a Red Sox uniform.
