08:18 AM ET 03.22 | His Georgia teammates aren't alone in singing the praises of Isaiah Crowell this offseason. Apparently his coaches like what they've seen and heard as well. The Bulldogs opened spring practice Tuesday, and Crowell, an enigmatic tailback from Columbus, was the first to line up with the No. 1 offense. "That's where he's starting out," Georgia coach Mark Richt confirmed without elaboration. ... [Crowell said a glut of tailbacks] have strengthened the backfield while intensifying his focus and dedication to becoming the best running back in college football. "My first goal is just to be a good teammate and help my team get to the national championship," he said. "My second goal is I'm trying to run for the Heisman."

This guy didn't do much last year. Why is he suddenly a Heisman candidate?

Yep. ESPN got behind RGIII when it became so obvious they had to...and did so grudgingly. Without it, he wouldn't have won it either. They didn't want to pimp him, but had to. Bet that stuck in their craw.

He had over 800 yards and 6 td while playing in limited action during the second half of the season due to injury and suspension... AP freshman of the year in the SEC. He has the skills, just seemed to have his head in his **** which can be expected of an 18 yo kid and the injury bug last year. Both seem to not be of concern currently plus he has pressure of a couple of top RB recruits pushing him which he didn't have last year.

Too bad Matt Barkley plays in a FoxSports/ABC/Versus conference.

There's a few other really good RB's in the SEC....Lattamore, K. Davis, 14-15 at LUS and Bama. IMO, this kid should worry a/b trying to be the best RB on his team first, his conference next, and not worry about the heisman

That would be my guess who wins it at this point in time.

FoxSports sells game rights to ESPN as the season progresses, so Matt might just get a shot.

Would agree.....if they can win 10+ games and stay relevant. Lose to Stanford, Oregon, and ND & I would say he's out.
On the other hand, we were all saying that about Luck last year......may be another RGIII out there somewhere.

That is a lot of worrying... I agree there are a lot of great backs in the SEC...I was just saying that he did pretty well as a freshman last year in limited action and has the potential to be that good.

I odn't think DR will play the entire season. Kid takes too many brutal hits. His numbers are great in non-conf (although Gump will hurt that this year), but he falls off after the beatings he takes from level competition.
As a CFB fan, I love watching this kid play, but IMO he can't keep up the stats thru 12 games and stay healthy.
