Payton ruling affects Brees' future

08:02 AM ET 03.22 | Drew Brees wouldn't have far to go for an explanation of the news that left him speechless Wednesday. [Brees] only needs to read the NFL's announcement on bounty discipline, which details what [Sean Payton] did -- and what Payton failed to do -- regarding the bounty scandal. ... The big question now is how this will affect Brees going forward. Brees is a free agent tagged with the exclusive franchise tender, which means he's not under contract with the Saints but isn't allowed to negotiate a contract with any other team, either. Brees was already reluctant to sign the exclusive tender offer, and he's surely going to be even more reluctant now that his beloved head coach won't be there.

"People"?

Nah... It was only Goodell.

When the Saints hired Spags as their new DC I thought they looked good for another Superbowl win. I think I just changed my mind about that.

His beloved head coach? I'm not sure I like that choice of words.

Once the player suspensions are handed down, "Who Dat?" will be what the fans say when they look at the Saints' starting defense.

Payton's arrogance got him. It is called hubris.

I'd go with Mickey Loomis. He was told to break up any bounty program in the organization, and it sounds like he blew off his boos and let things go on as they had been. (That makes me think Loomis didn't have the balls to cross Sean Payton.)

And this isn't the first time Loomis has been mentioned in a scandal involving the Saints. When the Saints were being investigated for the theft of Vicodin from their training facility a few months after the Saints won the Super Bowl, Loomis allegedly tried to sweep that mess under the rug.

Tom Benson should be putting some serious consideration into firing Loomis right about now.

Wow...talk about falling from a great height... SB champions yesterday, a franchise unravelling at the seams today.....now probably losing their franchise QB... the Saints got their halos "knocked clean off"......

Going back to being the AINT'S..

March 22, 2012  09:01 AM ET

How stupid are the Saints for not locking him up with a contract. I hope he walks.

It's a good thing Alex Smith signed an extension already.
