Valentine already on the hot seat

08:16 AM ET 03.22 | In the eyes of some, Bobby Valentine is set up to succeed in his first season and wear on his players in the second. Who says it will take him that long? All spring, we've heard about how Valentine is the anti-Terry Francona, full of energy and attention to detail. There's just one problem: Francona was the most successful manager in Red Sox history. ... One rival executive says he looks forward to Valentine becoming the Red Sox's Hank Steinbrenner. That might be too extreme, but the potential for Valentine's act to obscure his pure baseball intellect is quite real. Yes, Bobby V is in only the first year of a two-year deal, and ownership will not easily admit a mistake, if that's what this turns out to be.

He's managing the Red Sox. That seat is always hot.

As much as I think it is unlikely, I would love to see the carnage in Boston if the Red Sox were to miss the playoffs for a third consecutive year.

Ownership was wise not give him a long term deal.

The team hasn't even played a regular season game, and writers are opining about his performance. What-ever... If it sells tickets and merchandise, it'll stick.

Considering the division they play in, it???s very possible they could be left out again. All depends on Beckett, Lester & Buchholz. Like I said before, they need at least 575 total innings combined from those 3 to have a realistic chance.

This later in the same article.

If all goes well, Bobby being Bobby could prove as popular in Boston as Manny being Manny was back in the day. But let???s see how this team comes together. It will take all of Valentine???s creativity and skill to put the Sox in the best possible position to succeed.

Maybe... Personally I'll wait to see them play some baseball.

Their starters always seem to be out of the game after 5-6 innings because of their pitch count.

Boston needs a Halladay in the rotation to help rest the bullpen. Easiest way to do that is to throw first-pitch strikes. That seems to be a tall order for most.

That was under Francona. It doesn't seem like Valentine is gonna baby these guys as much.

You Saux fans are so funny. It is great to watch you at least be contenders. This way you tear each other apart and then wonder why you can not win.

We're flattered you think our opinions affect what the boys do on the field.

Oy vey!

Give him a break, your looking at a guy coming in to a team which is alot on the pitchers anyways is way overated. Lester pitches so inconsistent, has been for a couple of years, he is overated and Buchlouze if healthy, that remains to be seen, Beckett, is stubborn, can be earactick, when he wants to be, and that isn't enough at times, they need pitchers that can come in relaxed, posed to know that they have a job to do, do what they are getting paid to do, then we will see what kind of screwey line up Valentine has to work with

He's a twit. Overrated.

That didn't take long.
