Padres' future remains foggy

08:24 AM ET 03.23 | The good news is that the Padres have emerged from layaway limbo with an owner who needs no introduction and, more to the point, no vote of approval. The bad news is that John Moores has returned like Michael Corleone -- "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in." -- and that he is liable to stick around just long enough to solicit a fresh round of bids. Indications that Jeff Moorad left his post involuntarily, that he chose to step down as the Padres' chief executive officer as an alternative to being shoved, are consistent with the industry perception that Moores has recently reasserted proprietary interest in a baseball team he has lately owned mostly in absentia. But whether that means tranquillity or more turmoil is to be determined. Whether Moores' enthusiasm has been rekindled or he still wants out is a matter of conflicting opinion and, perhaps, prudent tax planning. Suffice it to say that the future of the franchise remains foggy and that the people who subsidized Petco Park continue to be marginalized by the ballclub's supposed stewards. As a result, we are left to wonder, to speculate and to weigh whether a low-budget ballclub coming off a last-place finish is even worth worrying about.

what the san diego border padres have to do, stop being soo stingy and soo careless about their players, they should lock as many top prospects into a long term deal, SEE the rangers, they just signed holland to the lowly and small amount of 28 millions 5 years deal, now that's what i can call a wise move!!!!
