09:32 AM ET 03.24 | The fan protest at Miami Dolphins headquarters on Tuesday created a ground swell powerful enough to reach the top of the embattled franchise. Team owner Steve Ross reached out to at least one of those upset fans Thursday night, calling protester Jason Lawrence, a Dolphins' season ticket holder for more than 20 years. Lawrence said he asked about the decision to trade leading wide receiver Marshall to Chicago for two third-round draft picks. Twice, Lawrence said, Ross would not say if the Dolphins were rebuilding. He told Lawrence moving Marshall was not about money, but more about protecting team morale. "[Ross] said they had been shopping [Marhsall] for a couple weeks," Lawrence said. "Nobody would return their phone calls about getting him. If Chicago didn't take [Marshall] -- they would have ended up cutting him very shortly after that, and got nothing."

Indeed. But, wait, aren't dolphins mammals? So, are you talking about the Marlins? I'm confused.

The Dolphins don't need over-priced free agents. They need some good draft picks.

The Marlins aren't going anywhere but their fans wish that they would.

That (and winning) would improve team morale quicker than anything...

He can punch some more women in Chicago as long as he can punch in some touchdowns

He led the team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns last year.

I find it difficult to believe they would have released him. But then again it is Stephen Ross.

he's been cut (and stabbed) before....

So the owner proved he doesn't have a clue on how to run an NFL franchise

Say what you want about Jerry Jones, imagine Steve Ross in Dallas, what a miss match!

And then there's his GM. Two peas in a pod, it would seem.

I'm not taking up for Ross but he has been let go by 2 franchises that needed him in 3 years. I'm surprised the Bengas didn't try to get him. He could have lasted there 5 years.

Do the Fins play the Colts this year? That would quite a game (at the high school level). And if either play the Aints, then they might actually chalk up a W.

Zero chance Manning goes to Denver.

Or so They say...I don't believe that for a second. Its s ploy to look better in the eyes of the fans. Oh, we were going to cut him anyway so look how great we did by getting two picks. Its BS

Ha!

Bengals would have given him a raise.

Chicago didn't pay much for him anyway.
