Will leaner Zambrano be better for Marlins?

09:45 AM ET 03.24 | In order to prove that he is a better pitcher than he showed last season with the Chicago Cubs, Carlos Zambrano worked hard over the winter, hiring a personal trainer and jogging up mountainsides and along beaches in his native Venezuela. The result? While Zambrano wouldn't disclose his weight to sportswriters, he grabbed the waistband of his size 40 jeans with one thumb and pulled it out to show that he has trimmed down at least two or three sizes. Zambrano said the only reason he didn't lose more weight was because his wife doesn't like him to be too skinny.

He'll just be a more fit at quitting on the Marlins like he did the Cubs.

Just not having to play in Wrigley Field, home of multiple curses and other excuses, is going to be good for Zambrano's psyche. And I'm pretty sure Ozzie will yank him out of games quickly when he has a bad outing and not throw him under the bus by leaving him in to endure an extended shellacking.

Haha exactly. I believe there was an identical headline about him last year. And we all know how well that turned out

Yeah, Ozzie will be yanking Zambrano in the fifth inning on a regular basis. Volsted will have a better year than Zambrano

At least he'll be able to throw water coolers, bats and balls from the dugout without getting winded now

Did you mean Volstad? We all know why Zambrano was traded. He lost support because of his emotional immaturity and because his contract set higher expectations. None the less, Carlos was one of the Cubbies' best starters last year.
So why do you think the Marlins gave up on a young pitcher like Volstad?

Well look who's become a big Zambrano fan all of a sudden? Defending him to the last. How sweet. What a dumbass!! Zambrano had a horrible year last season, but you're obviously too stupid to remember this. The Marlins exchanged Volstad for Zambrano because they are also stupid. It will not be difficult for Volsted or any other pitcher for that matter to eclipse anything that Zambrano can do. Usually your posts are pretty worthless but you have managed to out do yourself here

Let me pint out that Zambrano was 2 games above .500 for a team that finished 20 games below .500, 22 without Carlos. He won 9 games even though he missed 26% of the season. The Cubs' crappy bullpen and league worst defense cost him multiple wins as well. He has had 9 straight winning seasons, the record for a Cubbie pitcher, and only two other pitchers in the major leagues have longer streaks, Sabathia and Hudson.
Volstad's stats for 2011 were pretty similar to Zambrano's except he went 5-13 for a team that won one more game than the Cubbies. Comparing career stats, Zambrano is a much better pitcher. If Volstad is so good, why hasn't he earned a spot in the weak Cubbie rotation yet? Or are the Cubbies more focused on their great bunting competition?
