10:44 AM ET 03.24 | When sophomore Nick Hirschman suffered a broken right foot a week before spring practices started for the Colorado football team, it effectively ended any real competition at the position until this summer. Fellow sophomore Connor Wood, the frontrunner to earn the starting job in the fall, is receiving every first-team snap in practices. Redshirt freshmen John Schrock and Stevie Joe Dorman are splitting snaps with the second team.

Be interesting to see how much of the rusty cow QB fiasco was/is due to recruiting and how much was/is due to development. What say you UTx faithful?

Combo of development, scheme change and not being able to perform under severe scrutiny.
I think Gilbert's biggest issue is the pressure. In practice, he was able to get it done. In front of 100k and the microscope of arguably the highest pressure job following VY and Colt, panicked.
Wood will be a good case study. Scheme may contribute for him. I think he may have worked well with Davis. He came from a small private school, and it also looked like he was overthrowing a lot causing the accuracy issues. It'll be a lot easier playing in Boulder for him.

All Texas needs is to score 17-21 points a game to have a VERY good season. I would think Ash and co. should be able to handle that.

I say this is the year we see if Harsin is all he's cracked up to be. Last year I saw QBs and receivers who weren't prepared to take the field and too many trick plays ... then they fell back on a running scheme.
I saw no improvement in Gilbert last year after he had a chance to work with Harsin, and they gave up on Wood too quickly. Again if Harsin is so great why didn't Gilbert and Wood develop? These guys came into the program very highly rated.
Recruiting is not normally a problem (except for the year we didn't recruit a QB). Our problem seems to be RETAINING QBs (see Snead, Kinne, Wood, Gilbert etc...) and since Greg Davis left I've been wondering if anyone knows how to teach/develop QBs.
