Flynn may not start for Seahawks

06:53 AM ET 03.25 | The Seahawks were the right place for Matt Flynn for a couple reasons. He isn't being counted on to play like he did in the regular season finale for the Packers. In fact, he might not even be counted on to start. My Seahawks sources wouldn't be surprised if Tarvaris Jackson beat him out, given that Jackson played pretty well the second half of the season. And the Seahawks still are looking at QBs in the draft. The other factor is Seahawks general manager John Schneider had special insight into Flynn. He was part of the Packers crew that drafted him, and he also is one of Mike McCarthy's best friends in the business.

First!!!

That would be one expensive backup. I doubt they sign him for $8mil and let him sit or draft another QB. Only reason they'd still be looking in the draft would be replace Jackson.

Flynn is an expert at being a backup, what else would expect from him?

Then there's the part where Joe Philbin didn't even want him. So how good can he actually be?

Nice friggin contract to ride the pine.

Hey, if the Chargers are gonna pay their backup 4 million, let's show those guys and pay our guy 8 million!

Travaris J is someone who has more than nine lives. His problem has always been he cannot read defenses and gives up the ball a lot. I bet Flynn starts and TJ sits, Flynn is just a better field manager.

The story. The Seahawk " source " cited was T Jacks' mother.

If Flynn is not good enough to start ahead of Jackson why bring him in?

March 25, 2012  10:11 AM ET

This is the story they used to coax TJack back in from the window ledge. (Yeah, it was only the first floor, but they didn't want him to mess up the flower beds.)

Are you determining that he's a better field manager from his body of work (Flynn) or lack thereof? Doesn't make sense.

March 25, 2012  10:23 AM ET

Wait a minute! Let's pay a bunch of money for a guy to sit on the bench?

No it doesn't. He had two whole games under center in Green Bay. Heck, playing behind Green Bay's O-line and throwing to their WR corps might make just about any QB look pretty good.
