Will Haney help unlock Tiger riddle?

11:30 AM ET 03.25 | Hank Haney stands accused of treachery. He has written a tell-all book on his time with Tiger Woods and the locker room is up in arms, or least in three-irons. "He's violated our code," screamed Rick Smith, a former mentor of Phil Mickelson who sounded awfully concerned about the future of his profession. "I would rather be penniless than break the player-coach confidentially."Whatever else anyone accuses Haney of, he is helping to unlock the riddle. We will never quite get there, but thanks to Haney our understanding of Woods will be a lot more advanced.

Haney ruined Tiger's swing. By now he would have tied or broken Jack's record of 18 majors. Tiger's new swing looks better than the one he had with Haney, let Haney deal with Celebrity golfers, leave the professionals to the real deal.

Haney is like the Kate Gosselin of golf. Kudos to Woods for capturing Bay Hill. Now all the SI writers can send in their op-ed copies about how he's back. I'm sure Bamberger and Morfit have already had them written up for the past year and are now finally able to send them off to the editors. I'm sure they've already used up plenty of boxes of Kleenex. The only real issue is that even though he may be back, he's still a horse's rear end to 95 percent of golf fans. It will be interesting to see how this year pans out for him. McDowell could probably use some Kleenex now too. See how the intimidation factor still plays out? On to Augusta!

Player - Coach confidentiality? "our code"? Give me a break. You're golf coaches, not doctors, priests or lawyers. Why would a player tell his swing coach all his personal secrets anyway? America is the land of celebrity obsession so if you don't want your private stuff on the internet 10 seconds after you say it, keep your mouth shut.

The message Haney is sending is that he can't make enough money as a coach, so he has to write a "tell all" book about somebody who will always be better than him. Bit sad!
I'm not a Tiger fan anymore, but I still offer congratulations for a good win today!

Oh boy. Here we go. Tiger's back. 25 hour a day coverage through the Masters. If he wins the slobbering will be overwhelming. if he loses the golf media will be wearing sack cloth and ashes and wailing some more. This really isn't the most miraculous thing in the history of mankind. Good win yesterday and congratulations. Does it mean he can raise the dead? Probably not.

Eldridge played very well no doubt. It pains me to say it , but good for him. Poor Ernie looks like he needs a 3 day tournament tour because the last couple Sundays he just fell apart. Poor Mcdowell looked like me on the putting greens yesterday ???

Does Tiger's popping the cork finally mean an end to futility on the golf boards or will we still just get one bone a week?

I think G-Mac spent too much time concentrating on what Tiger was doing and not enough on his own game.

Hmmm. How many pages are there in Haney's book? They could probably stretch out their posts to last through the PGA tournament at this rate.

I was thinking his wardrobe choice of all black was causing him sun stroke or something ??? I giggled at the hapless announcer trying to create suspense for us tv viewers after the 15th hole was complete. Tiger up by 4 strokes , weather perfect , and his playing partner putting like he was using a chair leg. "anything can happen over those last 2 holes Roger"

Maybe the intimidation factor made an appearance yesterday afternoon.

McDowell still has something to prove. He has to be able to close the deal when the heat is on and he's paired with a guy like Woods. Not too many guys can do that I grant you but, he's going to have to in order to get the job done. If he would have gone forward instead of backward he could have at least been in a playoff. They say that the young guys don't have any fear of a guy like Tiger but, I'm not so sure. If Woods is in the mix this year during the majors, the only way he is going to be beat is if someone has blinders on or Tiger's body crumbles again.

Wow John! Is this really you or did someone hijack your computer? According to you, Tiger's "intimidation factor is gone", "All facets of his game are completely out of whack", the "whole package is broken" and "He's become unimportant". You constantly belittle the sports writers...most of the time I agree with you...but at least they're consistent.
Oh and I almost forgot..."he's still a horse's rear end to 95 percent" of the people out there...or is that just hyperbole and your I hate Tiger post du jour? Funny how it seemed there was more than 5% cheering for him on Sunday and gave him a standing ovation at the conclusion of his round. I guess they must not read this blog...

I think you're right about most of this. I don't think I've ever commented that his lost his ability to intimidate though. If he's limping around wounded then, sure, he's not going to intimidate too many other players. If his game is on, then only a small handful of guys can block that factor out and play well against him. I'm sticking to my guns on the "unimportant" facet relative to most of the general public. I don't think that they are going to do a 180 and start loving him as a person. For being skilled, yes. As a human being, no.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think Tiger will become unimportant until he stops being competitive on the course. As long as he starts playing well and winning consistently, stays healthy and puts Jack's majors record in danger...he is relevant and important. He doesn't have to be the public's darling for that to be the case. Just look at Nicklaus...before he started doing the Big 3 with Arnie and Gary...nobody liked him either...granted he didn't have the same baggage Tiger does.
Will people do a 180...only time will tell. At least he's signing autographs now and stopped to give a kid a golf ball during one of his rounds at Bay Hill.
As far as Elin is concerned...now that she's no longer Mrs. Tiger Woods...she's irrelevant other than a side bar in the Tiger saga. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Tiger lover and I don't condone what he did...I' m interested to see how all this plays out.
