Zito sends concern coursing through Bochy

08:19 AM ET 03.26 | The Giants may not need much from Barry Zito, but they'll need more than they got over the weekend. Bruce Bochy said they just want Zito to "give them a chance to win," every time out. That doesn't mean he has to go out and win the game. Just get through five or six innings and give the offense and bullpen a chance to do the rest. They'll take that from their No. 5 starter. But Sunday, Zito barely even got out of the first inning. ... "You don't like to see this when it gets this close to the season," Bochy said. "He couldn't get the ball where he wanted. He just didn't have it today. You're at the point now where you're hoping you get locked in, and that wasn't the case."

Zito is still the same lousy pitcher he's been for years. I'm surprised that the Giants are surprised he sucks.

No kidding. That front office won a world championship in spite of itself.

ill be no better than average this year... He can no longer dominate a game...

What planet are you living on? They'd be ecstatic with average. Did you read they just hope he can get thru 5?

One of the worst FA deals of all time, and the sad part is all the indicators where there that he was gonna suck. That's why Oakland let him walk, not sure what the Giants were thinking. Then this loser even gets a ring out of the deal, along with stealing 18 mill per for 7 years. LOL

I was wondering the other day (not really) whatever happened to Zito. Mystery solved! He's still playing baseball.

A non-entity if you will.....................makes Joe Blanton look like..........well..................someone better than Zito!

It isn't easy to find that type of comparison.

Zito will be no better than average this year... He can no longer dominate a game...

The Giants would be thrilled if Zito was average this year. He's not even that.

Concerned just now? I thought they would have written this clown off by now... anything he gives the Giants this season has to be seen as a bonus. One of the worst FA signings ever.

What exactly is the cause for his decline? Age, injury, lack of passion? I'm a A's fan and he was a good pitcher for them back in the day. I haven't followed his career, but see the stat lines on SportsCenter on occassion and they usually aren't pretty.

Exactly. Zito being average would be a bonus to the Giants.

The Giants will do what they did last year, come up with some shadowy excuse to put him on the 60 day DL, and ship him off to Fresno, their AAA affiliate. But don't worry, there are plenty of nice malls in Fresno and an Indian Casino close by in case he gets bored living in the Central Valley. It is interesting from a management perspective because they are going to have to pay him whether or not he's productive as a major league pitcher. Watch out for the Giants once they get rid of him and Aubrey Huff. They got rid of Rowand last year, then they won't have any excuses left for the p.r. department to make once the Kavorka leaves town.
