08:10 AM ET 03.26 | A Friday report suggested Andy Reid threatened to quit, prompting Reid to release a statement refuting the claims. The value in such deliberate spin isn't in improving Reid's situation with the Eagles. He has already had the equivalent of two NFL coaching careers with the team and has the obviously unshakeable support of [Jeff Lurie]. No, the value is in creating a favorable perception of Reid, in the event his tenure here actually does come to an end. If he wants to coach again, and he has given every indication that he would, then it's helpful to show potential employers that he was a victim of a bad situation with the Eagles. Oh, and it sure wouldn't hurt if that potential employer owned whichever franchise winds up in Los Angeles, Reid's hometown.
