08:03 AM ET 03.27 | For his part, Ted Phillips says he'd like to see Matt Forte in a Bears uniform for a long time. [Phillips] told the Sun-Times Monday evening that the club has made Pro Bowl running back Matt Forte a "strong offer" and the they're hopeful he'll accept it. "I think not only do we appreciate him and have told him so, but I think the offer we've made him shows that, too." ... Phillips said. "But we feel we've made a strong offer to him, and are still hopeful he accepts it." Forte expressed his frustration after the club signed Michael Bush to a four-year contract late last week. But, Phillips said the team needs a "complementary" back and reiterated that the Bears have no intention of trading or parting ways with Forte.

The guy is good because he can run and he catches passes like Marshall Faulk. But he wants Adrian Peterson-type money and that ain't happening.

I do hope it is a fair deal, though. This dude is one tough hombre.

He ain't AP but he ain't chopped liver either. Pay the man decent money. Put in performance bonuses so that he can win the rushing title and get more $$$.

The Bears realize that they can't go forward without him.

You can't expect to succeed for long in the NFL with only one running back. If you think you should be the #1 guy, prove it on the field. Be better than the other guy.

sign it Matt. running backs are worth less every year to every team. those days are over.
You have no other option.

I guess we will have to wait for the details to leak out before anyone can determine how strong the offer actually is.

Yep.
A "strong" offer from the Bears is a relative term, anyway.

Either Forte is being unreasonable or the Bears offer isn't that strong

Hey....where in the world is Carmen San Diego, err, I mean Packers Super Dynasty 2011???

I was wondering the same thing. He was talking a LOT of junk right up until the Packers failed to live up to his "predictions". Maybe he conjured an alter for himself so he could roam the Miami Heat threads without shame...

There haven't been any Packer threads at all. Sorry to say it, but all the threads this time of year are about teams and players in disarray.
The good news is, if the Bears can keep Cutler healthy, they don't belong in this group.

Definitely the latter. And I wish they'd stop dicking around and get it done with Forte instead of trying to save a few dollars. This is so typical of Ted Phillips. Talks out of both sides of his mouth when he says anything. Perfect McCaskey-ite.

He was 57% of their offense...safe to say he's more than just a RB. Him, Ray Rice, McCoy and MJD and a different breed bc of their receptions and ability to put up big numbers in the passing game. Duel threat RBs are way more valuable than just a runner

Forte is a very proud man. That's why he played last year - and played hard - under constant threat of injury instead of holding out. Pride. It's possible, believe it or not, that he sits this year out of pride. Knowing the idiot, classless McCaskeys, who don't make distinctions between players when it comes to saving money, my sympathies are entirely with him. (Don;'t forget that Virginia is the daughter of George Halas who was said to have made nickels scream. A **** de luxe.)
