Thompson wants to be better than Ellis

08:07 AM ET 03.28 | Many fans howled at the trade that sent Monta Ellis packing, but there is at least one early upside. Here's the thing about [Klay Thompson]: He doesn't want to replace Ellis; he wants to be better than Ellis. Thompson wants to be better than any shooting guard, for that matter. "He's chasing greatness," head coach Mark Jackson said. Thompson had 20 points in the Warriors' 104-101 loss to the Lakers at Oracle Arena on Tuesday night. Since Ellis was traded to Milwaukee on March 13, Thompson has averaged 19.7 points (setting personal highs three times), 3.1 assists and 2.2 rebounds. In 38 games as Ellis' backup, Thompson averaged eight points, 1.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds.

I love this kid. I still say the Cavs blew that draft by taking Tristan Thompson with the 4th pick. Yes he's a nice player but he's the same as Andy. Just not as good. I feel like it was a wasted pick. You put Kyrie Irving next to Klay Thompson and you solidify your back court for the next 10 years.
(This kid will be a better all around ball player than Ellis)

OK.....where is it said that he's chasing stats? I didn't see that anywhere in the story......
From where I stand, if he can score anywhere near Ellis did, can rebound (6 or 7 per game) and play solid defense, then he will be superior to Ellis.
As it is, he's scoring 18 PPG (if you extrapolate his stats over 36 minutes per game), he's shooting 42% from behind the 3-point arc and is shooting freethrows at almost 90%. If he improves his mid-range game, he'll remind a lot of people of Reggie Miller and Ray Allen.
IMHO, of course.

I think you're wrong.
Monte Ellis is a 21 PPG scorer after his rookie season; and only his last two seasons approaches 'Outstanding' as far as being a scorer goes. And I don't see Ellis sustaining those numbers from the past two seasons.
I think this kid will make Warrior fans forget all about Ellis by next season.

LOL no! If he averages 5 PPG and they win, he would not have anything to do with it. He'd be labeled a bench warmer/garbage time player. >_<
