Manning in decline before neck issues

08:05 AM ET 03.28 | While so much of Peyton Manning's future is viewed through the lens of neck surgeries, some scouts were looking back before them. Even before the four neck procedures were done and the nerve regeneration was necessary, some scouts noticed a difference in the then-Colts quarterback. His numbers didn't tail off much in 2010, particularly when you consider the injuries that Indy suffered on offense, but there were subtle hints caught on tape that revised the book on Manning. "The fall-off was significant on film," said one scout from a rival AFC team. "He showed stiffness and lost athletic traits. What made him special was never his athletic ability or movement skills, but you could see it with his arm strength, too."

Where's our Tebow thread?

Revisionist history. After-the-fact analysis. 20-20 hindsight. Good thing he played the games on the field, not on film.

It's coming, be patient. I saw a headline this morning that said Madonna wanted to show Tebow around New York.

They're really working hard to keep the Manning threads coming.

Back from school already? Or do you always come back after the bell rings and all the little girls go inside?

Maybe A-Rod will let him crash at his place.

Yeah football players do seem to go into decline when they reach the age of 36!!!!

March 28, 2012  09:08 AM ET

If that's the case then I find it interesting as to how many teams were willing to throw caution to the wind in wooing Manning to sign with them.

Whatever. Manning at 36 is still a top 3 QB. He's aleays going to be the smartest player on the field

DUH, really? He showed stiffness? Of course he did, why else would he have needed four neck surgeries? It's not like he woke up one day after the season and needed surgery, he was having issues during the season that caused him to see the doctors and receive the surgery after the season had ended. These writers and so called experts are desperate for storylines, how embarassing.
