Giants not ready to trust Belt

08:12 AM ET 03.28 | Brandon Belt is, apparently, not yet ready for primetime. Giants officials chewed over every aspect of their roster Monday night. They'll continue to digest the Brandon Belt decision. But there is skepticism about Belt's readiness to succeed at the big league level. Even with extra roster spots afforded by Freddy Sanchez and Ryan Vogelsong starting on the disabled list, sources tell me it remains very possible -- likely, even -- that Belt will begin the year at Triple-A Fresno. Belt is batting .380 with a .429 on-base percentage and three home runs. ... Yet he remains a work in progress with the coaching staff, who are concerned that his setup and swing mechanics will leave him vulnerable against quality major league pitching.

Bochy has a very hard time playing young players. Since, I am a Phils fan, I am fine with the Giants keeping one of their best hitters in the minors.

God forbid someone who can hit the ball actually makes the lineup.

Are they talking about the belt that Pablo Sandoval wears? I wouldn't trust it could hold his fat either.

What's a trust belt? I've heard of an anti-trust belt that fathers would make their daughters wear back in ancient times.

Hes only hit for a higher average and more power than both Pill and Huff, so lets have them play 1B and ship Belt off to Fresno! Oh he's out hitting all our outfielders except Cabrera too? Well we still dont need him and we will put Schierholtz in the OF instead, or Huff can fall all over the OF when we have Posey play 1B. Because we don't want to lose Huffs bat.

I'm pretty sure Prince Fielder doesn't trust his belt, either. I don't see that making news.

Huff has a bat.......................who knew?!?!?!?!?

He does, but there aren't any hits in it.

Bochy has certainly won his share of games ... but his (or somebody's) handling of the Brandon Belt situation certainly is odd. Is the kid problems in the club-house or something? What gives?

When in doubt, follow the money. Is this another situation like the Harper/Nats, holding him back until midseason to save $ on arbitration eligible?

A combination of that and working on pitch recognition probably.

This is the kind of decision that will have pitchers leaving for other teams, it is the one thing they all complain about with the Giants, not enough run support. Like Wilson said; give us 4 runs every game and we will win 90% of our games

giants has to trust somebody sometimes!!

March 28, 2012  02:54 PM ET

Heaven forbid if Huff gets his feelings hurt. Belt is BETTER than Huff now and would have shown it last year if he had not been jerked around by the Giants. Huff with 4 RBIs for all spring training, batting in the fifth slot with Melky and Blanco on base ahead of Huff. Everyone else has at least 10 RBIs behind the 2 leadoff guys. Huff is copy and paste.

Send da Coaches Down Keep The Kid, Teach him to play Centerfield!!!

Belt and Pill are potential offensive assets for the Giants. Play them now and let them develop into everyday offensive assets!
