'Strong hate' among California clubs

08:23 AM ET 03.28 | In the case of the Ducks, Sharks and Kings, familiarity breeds some contempt. The Ducks have won four [meetings against the Sharks] this season, with a final game set for [Wednesday] at 7 p.m. at Honda Center. Asked if his club's head-to-head success could be the result of a "matchup factor," Coach Bruce Boudreau said he thinks it's more an example of a "hate factor." Boudreau's players didn't disagree. "It's a strong word, but we definitely dislike them," defenseman Cam Fowler said of the Sharks. "Not to say we don't have respect for them because they're a great team. But the Kings and the Sharks and the Ducks, I think, all have a strong hate for each other. That's just how it is."

But can it get fans in the building to watch?

Los Angeles and San Jose generally pack their buildings, the Ducks on the other hand struggle to put fannies in the seats

forgive me, but there really is no reason to have two teams so close in Ca. (Kings and Ducks)
Nothing against California, but Southern Calif. really doesn't need 2 teams, especially if The Ducks, who won A Cup not so long ago, can't fill their building

I vaca'd out there a couple years ago and wasn't aware they are 45 minutes from each other.

there is breaking news for you, teams in the same division who dislike each other.

Wow, that's pretty close. Even Florida and Tampa Bay - you're looking at around a 4 hour drive. How far apart are the Flyers and the Pens?

And what, no Selanne with the flaming gas picture? I'm calling shenanigans.

Not long enough.

JK.

When I drove out of there once, like a bat out of hell, it took me about 5 hours. And I got a ticket, so what's the lesson here, kiddies? Never go to Philly. ;) JK.

I have always taken an airplane to Philly, so.... Roughly about 5-6 hours from Philly to Pgh, or the other way around.

I beginning to get the idea of their stock photos:
Several Irk shots (the racetrack being the usual)
Selanne's Flame Out
Sid's "I'll never join you!"
Torts telling some ref to read between the lines
This one here of Soft Joe looking like he has no idea to what to do with that thing on his stick, (so I'm thinking it was a playoff photo)
Tim Thomas looking like he's going in his pants at the boards
we can count on seeing at least one of these almost every day

Okay, Kings and Sharks I can understand, but, how can you hate a Duck?

Having two hockey teams in SoCal makes as much sense as having two NBA teams in North Battleford.

My understanding is that if you minus the NYC and LA area teams, the two closest would be Toronto and Buffalo at 1.5 hours.

And you wonder why Dirty Buf doesn't want a Hamilton team...

I agree, Via a duck?

I hate being in the same division with California teams.

Does that count?

I've done Pittsburgh to North Jersey in 5, so it can't be much more. Nice drive though.

Would you prefer Western Canadian teams?

Seriously! The reason the league set up the 8 games between teams in the same division was to build up the rivalries. Well at least that worked.

One question I have though. How far apart are the Islanders, Rangers and Devils?
