Tracy leaning one way on Moyer's fate

08:16 AM ET 03.29 | One of the biggest decisions facing Rockies manager Jim Tracy -- committing to Jamie Moyer as the fifth starter -- is close to being decided. Regarding Moyer, it certainly appears he's going to make the rotation, as long as his 49-year-old body continues to hold up. Tracy said he's eager to see how Moyer responds [Thursday] after a 89-pitch outing today. Moyer wasn't sharp today against the White Sox (three runs on seven hits in four innings), but he hung tough. ... "He certainly didn't hurt himself in my eyes. There are no issues with Jamie's arm. Zero. Jamie Moyer's body, and how he feels, how his legs bounce back, those are all important aspects. You ask the question, can he bounce back five days later?"

He is determined to be a starting pitcher at age 50 next year. He should go for it. As long as it is with the Rockies.

Colorado seems to be the LAST place a guy who throws in the low 90s should be. That place is a launching pad, and he's serving up fat-balls. Miami would be a better location for him -- the humidity will kill some of those high fly balls, and the warm climate will be good on his body.

You make an interesting point about the warm climate in Miami, which made me think of this as an idea. If they have the humidor for the baseballs, why can't there be a human humidor for Moyer? I'm rooting hard for him to make the team, and to be productive this year. With Omar Vizquel already making the Blue Jays, it would be great to see a couple of guys who were active in the 1980's still playing.

Like Philly isn't a launching pad? Child please.

Rangers ballpark had 146 more HR's than Coors Field and that.....was with a pitching staff that went to the World Series. There's your launching pad. Some of that may have had to do with a few Ranger players being juiced though.

There IS a humidor in Colorado. They installed it a couple of years ago when the HRs got out of hand. But I'm not sure where Denverbob gets his information on Rangers pitchers being juiced. That's a pretty serious accusation ... esp. since Nolan is so violently anti-drug.

I don't think Coors Field is the launching pad it used to be.

You ever wonder how slow a Moyer change-up is? My guess is around 63 MPH.

moyer will continue playing hard baseball, the well acumulated knowledge in the past 20 seasons, has a great pay back!!!

DenverRob thinks everybody that has decent seasons juiced. Maybe they're just used to mediocre there.

The humidor does help help make the ball heavier, but the ball still travels through thin air. The Bishop may have a point about Coors Field not being the launching pad it used to be, and perhaps the humidor is to credit for that. We have yet to see what the ball does in Miami's new stadium, so really it's all speculation. Philly was a launching pad because it's so damned small.

I like Shums' suggestion on making a humidor for Moyer.

the real issue here is the implication that certain teams are infected with the PEDs bug while others aren't.....they're all doing it, people. or more accurately, so many are doing it that it is absurd to point fingers that way. we gotta pull our heads outta the sand on this issue.

if the goal is to preserve him shouldn't we be drying him out instead?

I think a Moyer change-up could actually create a hole in the fabric of space/time
