Bobrovsky's silence could cost Flyers cash

08:27 AM ET 03.29 | That he's backing up Ilya Bryzgalov, who is dealing with a foot injury, adds a wrinkle to Sergei Bobrovsky's recent reticence with the media. [Bobrovsky], who speaks plain English at this point and talks to his teammates in such, refused to meet with the media Wednesday as he prepares for a start in net Thursday in Toronto. Goalie coach Jeff Reese has his back and won't order him to talk, either. A PR representative for the Flyers offered Bobrovsky either a pool reporter or to do the interview himself with a list of four questions from the media. Bobrovsky still would not talk. If he refuses to talk to reporters after Thursday's game, the Flyers are facing a $10,000 fine from the NHL.

Flyer's fans don't care as long as he can stop the puck.

Thus proving that talk is cheap.

Not sure I understand? Why won't they allow him to talk to the media? Maybe a Flyers' fan can elaborate?

I didn't know the NHL could fine teams for players refusing interviews. $10K to a sports team is like a dollar to Joe Average, not sure what the big deal is.

Something you don't hear everyday. :-)

Like what? Does Bob have a Husky too? What are the chances of that? ;)

Seriously. What is the big deal? "Bryz has an injury. I am backing him up. Peace Out, Homeslices!"

My understanding is that it's Bob's decision, and not the teams decision, to refuse media interview requests.

me either... the League will fine them? seriously?
I wonder if he walked out to the reporters and said "Hi my name is... " if that counts.

After listening to some reporters questions, I might be willing to pay 10 grand just so I wouldn't have to talk to them anymore. Especially if I were getting Bobky's money.

Somewhere there's a part of me that hopes this decision by players not to talk to the media will spread. Maybe then we'd get reporters with a third grade intellect. (No intent on my part to insult third graders). And media commentators with second grade abilities ( see Milbury and McGuire )

Who can figure the dopey media mob? Not long ago they were complaining that Tim Thomas was talking too much and did everything they could to shut him up. And now they're complaining Bobrowsky's not talking enough and should be fined? Go figure!

yeah, all of the leagues do it. I think it's supposed to give some air of humanity to the overpaid jackwagons.
The NFL hands out some pretty big fines for this stuff

Well, we can see the League's application of rules has kept it's normal level of making any sense. Really, fining someone for not talking to the media? I could kind of see the point if the team was refusing to allow any of their players to talk to the media. But just because one guy doesn't want to talk? There's gotta be something more substantial for them to care about than this....
