08:18 AM ET 03.30 | Would Kansas State AD John Currie be willing to take a risk with Doug Gottlieb? [Gottlieb] admits it's not an ideal scenario that plays out too often in the world of college basketball. Yeah, it's probably a long shot. But if Kansas State were to open the door and hire the ESPN college basketball analyst for the Wildcats' head-coaching vacancy, he believes he'd do well. "I'm pretty self aware and I understand that the idea is not necessarily out of left field, but it would not technically be the norm for an athletic director," Gottlieb told The Mercury in a phone interview on Thursday. "But I do believe if given the chance I would do it pretty well." ... [Gottlieb] has a strong desire to be the next head coach at K-State.

If K-State is stupid enough to hire Gottlieb, then I clearly understand why Frank Martin left.

Really? How can you say this? I think you have this guy confused with somebody else. The only coaching that I see that he has EVER done was for the 2009 United States team at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. And when has he ever recruited anyone?

And let's not forget that he was run out of Notre Dame for stealing his roommate's credit card and running up a little tab on it.

How do you know he is a great recruiter or coach? He has never been an assistant coach anywhere on the collegiate level.

Yeah, No

I think they might as well give Gottlieb a chance, really what has K-State ever done? How many times have they gone to the Final Four? How many times have they won the Big 8? Big 12? Didn't Pat Riley do tv for the Laker games before he was tabbed to coach them? I think he'd be worth a shot & I'm not just saying this as a KU alumni. Who had ever heard of Roy Williams before KU picked him? A lot of people weren't crazy about Bill Self either & he's not done too shabby.

If he can recruit himself into this job then he can be the best recruiter in the country.

Maybe the credit card swindler has been taking lessons from dookie V. Everyone knows how great he was as head coach.

Now that's a great first post.

Riley was an assistant for the Lakers for 5 or 6 years before he became head coach (but yes, he did move from the broadcast booth to the assistant job, but less than a year into retirement as a player).
And Self and Roy Williams both had more than decent coaching resumes before landing at Kansas. Self twice won the Big 10 regular season title and in another year won the conference tournament title. Williams had been an assistant under Dean Smith for 11 years. Much different qualifications than talking about basketball on ESPN. I would have thought as a KU alum you would have known these things. What's next? Are you going to suggest that a FN poster get the job at K-State?

78-30 at the U of Detroit, beat Marquette at Marquette, actually, he WAS a good coach for a less then mid-major program... not surprisingly, it didn't translate to the pros, but 78-30? Not bad...

I'd love to see Doug get the job. Then hear everyone nitpick the **** like he does.

March 30, 2012  02:03 PM ET

guess he's never been to Manhattan...KS

March 30, 2012  02:05 PM ET

Is this a joke?

March 30, 2012  02:08 PM ET
