08:16 AM ET 03.30 | Many Yankees fans may wait to see the numbers, but the words are a start. These might be the most important words of the spring for the Yankees and they come from Alex Rodriguez. "I want to be a force in the middle of our lineup, someone who drives in a lot of big runs to win a lot of games," Rodriguez said. When those words were passed to Kevin Long, the hitting coach smiled and said: "I've been waiting for him to say that. That's what he needs to do. That's who he needs to be. Do that and he'll be a monster." A-Rod's comment tells you all you need to know about his head and his health. He's feeling good after last year's injury woes limited him to 99 games. He's ready to have a huge season.

He no longer has to worry about getting another facewash from Varitek.

Do it in the post season when it counts and then I'll believe you

Good. Spending my 2 hours a week answering calls at the station. Part of our budget constraints.

He wants to be a force this year. Someone who drives in a lot of big runs to win a lot of ballgames. As opposed to what did he want to be in previous years?

I haven't been able to take this guy seriously, since I heard he had a portrait commissioned, of himself, as part human-part centaur.

I haven't been able to take him seriously since he was banging that dried up skin sack Madonna.

ARod carried the Yankees in the 2009 postseason more than any player in memory. Every big hit in every key moment. The Yankees don't win any of the series that year without him.
