09:37 AM ET 03.31 | If UConn is ineligible to play in the NCAA Tournament in 2013, the Huskies will also be out of the Big East tournament as well. The NCAA Committee on Academic Performance will decide on two separate issues that could overturn UConn's current ineligible status. UConn's application for a waiver, in which it proposed its own sanctions, was rejected by the NCAA on Feb. 10. The CAP's subcommittee on appeals has received a final appeal from UConn. The full CAP is studying proposals to use more recent grades to implement its penalties. UConn hopes its APR scores from 2010-11 and 2011-12 would be used, rather than 2009-2010 and 2010-11. UConn's APR was 826 in 2009-2010, so there would be no way to raise its two-year average to the necessary 930.

Did anyone else see the Mark Emmert interview at halftime during last week's Kentucky/Baylor game?
He gave some interesting insights into his dealings with the university presidents and NBA. I especially like the part about wanting at least a 2 year commitment from the players, possibly 3 years. If a kid has no intention of pursuing college then let him go straight to the pros, but players entering college have to commit for 2 (possibly 3) years. I overwhelmingly endorse this idea!

You are right. One year removed from high school is the NBA's rule. Change it to 3 years removed and you'll see quality and depth returned to CBB. A few kids will jump straight to the NBA, or their bush league development league, or Europe.

don't be stupid people. This is not the result of any NCC recruiting infractions, etc. This is an academic issue. These kids are "student-athletes" remember (yeah right). If the goal of college is to set kids up for the future, why are programs, like UCONN, penalized for kids who leave early to join the NBA and make more money than every other kid in their graduating class, in their rookie year? NCAA is a bunch of idiotic, senial morons

Because many one-and-done kids don't bother to go to class during the spring semester because ... they're jumping to the NBA. So it counts against the college's academic score.
You can't expect the NCAA to change the entire system to fit the one-and-done kids.

For the record, and I really don't want to go lookit up again....but the majority of FBS football players would prefer a playoff system AND bowls....but asked to pick one over the other would select the bowls....

Recruits need to sign a 5-year contract. If they fail to complete 20% of their classes successfully each year they pay back their scholarships.
No team below an 80% graduation rate should be ineligible for any tournament or bowl games. Colleges were established as educational institutions, not sports training grounds.
College basketball has become the minor leagues for the NBA.

Really haven't thought this out have you?
A private school such as Stanford or Notre Dame costs upwards of $40,000 per year.
A lot of public schools could be had for less than $10,000 a year.
Making an athlete pay back the scholly is not as simple as you make it out to be.
In addition, many athletes could in no way afford to pay back their scholly, even at a public school.
Do you suggest that the university sue them?
