Change of heart for Parcells?

09:39 AM ET 04.01 | In speaking to Bill Parcells last week, there was a discernible mood change from Monday to Tuesday regarding the Saints job. It came after he played a round of golf with the Saints group of Sean Payton, GM Mickey Loomis and vice president of communications Greg Bensel. He seemed energized. It's important he became familiar with Loomis, who has been suspended for the first eight games. Parcells could pick up a lot of his responsibility the first half of the season.

Honestly, what kind of real authority would he have? He's there for only that year. Why wouldn't the Saints promote from within?

Yep, the Saints put a bounty on his head.

Made him an offer he couldn't refuse???

He doesn't have a heart.

Excellent question. Not very encouraging for guys like Vitt and Spagnuolo if their own GM and head coach don't think they're worthy of coaching for at least half a season.

It is about getting someone who is NO threat to Payton. If a guy like spagnuola took the job and won it all? You kidding me? Payton led Saints lost in the first round of the playoffs to Seattle two years ago, got beat by San Fran this last year and three years ago never made it to the playoffs. And all with a pretty darn good team.

Payton is covering his a**.

Spagnuolo was a disaster in St. Louis (please don't blame injuries for his abject failure) - and he's going to have his hands full if Roger suspends some members of the Saints' D for games this year. Vitt is suspended (appeal pending) so that makes NO sense.

Change of heart for Parcells?

So far it's working out for Cheney. They said he should be up and shooting friends in the face in no time.

Word has it that the Saints met with the assistant coaches. Pete Carmichael said he preferred to keep focusing on the offense, Joe Vitt is suspended for 6 games so if you make him head coach then you need another one for the other 10 games, the offensive line coach also preferred not to take the position and spagnoulo is going to focus strictly on the defense. They need someone who isn't looking to take payton's place and his assistants are all extremely loyal to him and have no desire to do that. Parcell's is the perfect choice. Yall can hate all yall want but when the saints are claiming the lombardi trophy AGAIN we'll be laughing at all you haters. all yall are doing is providing bulletin board material for us. the players all ready have the "us against the world attitude this year" and the fans do to. so thanks for that..... keep it up, please.....

If you were the 71 year old, then yes, it makes no sense.

They have an us versus them mentality because they cheated and everyone is coming down on them for it. What are we supposed to do, just say. "Aw shucks, it's okay you broke the rules. Just go on ahead like nothing happened."?

Anything the Saints are dealing with was brought on by them--no one else. If they need someone to be mad at then maybe they should start looking for a mirror.

Take your crying somewhere else because no one is going to feel sorry for the Saints.

Parcells for 1 season? Are you joking? Tuna is a great coach, but he is not a stop-gap, and I hope he is smart enough to understand that. This coaching position at best is an "interim". Tuna would be hurting his coaching legacy if he does anything but win the Super Bowl. HoF coachs are HoF coaches not because of what they do in 1 season, but what they do of a number of them.

Tuna had great qoute about not being able to pick the players he coaches that went something like "they want me to cook them supper, but they won't let me pick out the groceries".

Do the Current and Future Saints players a favor, and promote an assistant to the "Interim" position. It's an on the job "job interview". When it's time for Payton to leave the Saints organization, the Saints won't need to waste time on looking for another coach if the former "interim" coach can do the job or at least they will know he can't do the job. The coming season is already lost in many people's eyes, so let the team benefit from this and give an assistant coach a chance to earn his job down the line.
