Keystone State brawling just beginning?

08:23 AM ET 04.02 | Jim Tracy wasn't the only coach to refer to an opponent as "gutless" on Sunday. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette flung a broken stick at the opposing bench and then called Penguins coaches "gutless" in a closing scene Sunday sure to add anger to an already emotional rivalry. Also tossed around were taunts, hip-checks, accusations and ultimately punches during a 6-4 loss by the Penguins at Consol Energy Center. Fourth-line center Joe Vitale sparked a 10-player brawl -- and Laviolette's tirade -- when he leveled Flyers star Danny Briere with 1:03 left and the Penguins trailing, 6-3. ... It's not over. The teams play again Saturday in Pittsburgh and likely will meet in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Whole game was building up to that. Physical, over the line at times, got the usual as would be expected.

Article forgot to mention "spears to the groin" in the descriptions on what happened.

Oh, and Interns, it's Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, not Pitsurgh Tribune-Review. Please invest in spell-check.

I have to find this game online somewhere since I only saw the highlights but yeah, not seeing the whole game both the hit on Grossman and Briere were gutless. It looked like they were trying to go after both a weak point (defense) and a strong point (Briere in the playoffs) before the playoff matchup.

If I were the Pens I would keep up their history and hide their stars on Saturday. Either way it went from fun to overdrive fun for the fans.

The playoffs can't start soon enough for me.

Here we go.

Go back, look at the hits again, CLOSELY. Come back, and I expect a different answer. Neither hits were illegal, nor gutless.

The display from Malkin on G? Gutless. I will give you that onel.

Nothing about the hit from Schenn on Crosby? Hmm.

I will say that neither team were choir boys, but that is to be expected. But Lavy'behavior was way out of line, starting with breaking Talbot's stick, where pieces flew over to the other bench (could have hit a fan).

Our fourth line isn't "goons." Some play on our special teams. Our fourth line was sent out to give our other lines a break since the game seemed lost.

He is way off base. The hit on Briere was clean. Shoulder to shoulder.

Actually, til that fight, I was wondering if the Pens had a pulse? Hope they manage one, with some defense and goaltending during the playoffs.

Hope our crowd can manage a pulse as well.

The whole Crosby Schenn thing was nothing. Crosby threw a cheapie and got a cheapie in return.

Daniel Sedin gave the flop a 5.8, good flop, but room for improvement.

Also, I'm getting pretty sick of the Vigneaults, Torts and Lav's of the world constantly whining and crying about gamesmanship during the game. Now, if a goon line is sent out against a #1 line with 2 minutes left in the game, fine. But those 3 bring the whining to an art form.

It's amazing that these guys have been around the game for more than 10 minutes and have the nerve to act surprised. From Alain whining about the hit on Sedin after his guys throw a ton of cheap shots and trying to make Marchand a "marked man" on the ice, to Torts daily episodes that aren't even entertaining anymore to this, its just tiresome and tedious.

Regardless...

It WASN'T a "goon" line, IMHO.

Okay, Asham may be considered a "goon," but I would never consider Adams, Vitale, etc. "goons."

Plus, after the hit, it was the Flyers who jumped our guys.

The hit was as clean as they come.

I just don't understand it.

I was speaking in generalities about "goon line".

Crosby, I think (I only saw highlights) got a pretty good shot. I don't think he was expecting it (though he SHOULD have been!) and thus he went down like a sack of potatoes.

Crosby keeps going like this he'll be back in bed in Dartmouth in no time.Pretty dumb for a guy who even children in the third world know is a smack away from sucking food through a straw for the rest of his life.

Danny, did you WATCH the game?

Are you watching any of the games?

Crosby took plenty of **** during that game. So, if he doesn't get chippy back, he is a wimp. If he does, he should have his head knocked off? Okay. Got it.

He can't win.

Honestly, I can see it coming down to a Boston-NYR conference finals. Pittsburgh seems to be allergic to defense lately, and Fleury is doing a great Luongoal impersonation. They are giving up goals by the bushel.

Plus, with a Philly-Pit likely 1st rounder, whichever team makes it out is going to be really banged up and could become easy fodder for the team they are facing.

Let's face it, Ottawa, Buffalo, Washington, and Florida aren't going to be real tough to play against in the playoffs and 1 of those teams between Buf/Was/Fla aren't even making it in.

New Jersey is the wildcard, but they peaked a while ago.

All the antics that go on b/w these two and the one that makes Laviolette lose it is a clean check.
I'd hate to say this, but I agree with Hartnell about Consol. There is still a "honeymoon" with how awesome that place is, and it shows with quiet crowds.
