08:20 AM ET 04.02 | One-and-done is obviously a hot topic these days, with Anthony Davis considered a possible top NBA pick. Some coaches don't agree with [John Calipari's] philosophy. "I couldn't do it," said Louisville coach Rick Pitino. ... Calipari doesn't apologize for his system and has even made proposals to the NCAA and NBA to reward college phenoms with stipends, loans and insurance policies that would reward and encourage them to stay in school for at least two years if not all four. "It's not my rule," he said of the NBA's allowing players to turn pro after one college season. "I don't like the rules. I want Anthony to come back next year. There are only two solutions to it: Either I can recruit players who are not as good as the players I'm recruiting or I can try to convince guys that should leave to stay for me."

Hate to admit it, but he's right...unless the rules change (like for baseball), you play by what the current rules are, good or bad (see current BCS).

Personally I would like to see something in place where if you go to college you stay for 3 yrs, but you have the option of going out of high school (not limiting your ability to make money).

It's hard to knock his methods now, especially if he wins this thing.

Wow, can you imagine if they all came back, wow. But really, what else could Davis accomplish, and he is the number one pick.

Not a one of us would come back if a $10mil/year contract was staring us in the face.

Problem is, if these players come back, they might have to actually take a class or two to stay eligible.

+1...if they all returned I'm not sure they would improve a whole lot without their competition improving. The only way they will improve significantly is to compete against players just as talented as they are...and the only place to get that is the NBA. They won't dominate in front of the rim in the NBA like they've done in college IMHO.

Calipari can't control by himself what the rules are. He just has to go out and recruit the best players he can get. They certainly aren't going to say that they're going pro after 1 year when he's recruiting them.
