08:02 AM ET 04.04 | While talk focuses in Indianapolis on The Decision, a veteran may stand behind Door No. 3. Bruce Arians will have a franchise quarterback to work with in Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III within a few weeks, but that hasn't prevented him for taking a run at veteran free agent quarterback Byron Leftwich. Per a league source, the Indianapolis Colts, headed by Arians, are pursuing Leftwich to help teach Luck or Griffin the offensive scheme Arians brings with him after five years as the Steelers' offensive coordinator. Leftwich, 32, spent three years with the Steelers from 2008 and again in 2010-11 under Arians. Leftwich is considered a student of the game and an excellent teacher, which is what is attractive to Arians.

There ya go.

Stable, gutsy veteran who knows the offense but isn't a real threat to the rookie franchise QB. Perfect backup for Indy.

If the Cowboys had not grabbed Orton, I would have been extremely happy to go get Leftwich.

The perfect guy for that job.

Odd that a guy named "Arians" would like Leftwich.

And the Steelers worked out Jeff George to replace him...

At least Jeff's arm would be fresh as a daisy. I think it's been almost 10 years since he threw a pass in a game.

Well, the Colts will need a QB to take one hell of a beating this year so Luck can sit and learn.

Orton is a backup while Gabbert is a starting NFL QB? There is something terribly wrong with this picture.

You think that the Jaguars organization may be just a bit inept?

"Student of the game", "Excellent teacher". Notice how the phrase "can still play the game" is not included in a description of Leftwich.

If Leftwich is supposed to mentor Luck, can someone please tell me what Leftwich scored on his Wonderlic? How about Luck? What did the Stanford boy score?

Gabbert was a 42, wasn't he? Just sayin'.

Leftwich is a great backup, but he breaks easily...
