More pressure on Richt off the hot seat

08:21 AM ET 04.04 | Mark Richt may no longer be fighting for his job, which doesn't mean things are easy in Athens. This time last year when Richt went out to meet the fans, he was widely considered to be on the "hot seat," coming off a losing season and a dispiriting bowl performance. The talk was what a challenge Richt faced just to keep his job. But, actually, I think Richt faces a bigger challenge this season than last. ... The last time a Richt team entered a season with lofty expectations placed on them -- remember the preseason No. 1 in in 2008? -- the Dawgs came a cropper, starting a slide that didn't begin to turn around until that 10-game run last year. Richt definitely doesn't want to see that happen again.

Without knowing what the UGA preseason ranking is this article is a bit silly.

Richt is perpetually on the hot seat. When is he just going to quit and find a new college to coach at?

Being that it's from the AJC, one could assume automatically that the article is going to be silly.

Same story different year.

I'll narrow it down....somewhere between 2 and 120. (LUS is #1 this year)

Richt is a master of the hot seat..... does not bother him one bit.

My coach is on a hot motorcycle seat....does that count?

Funny remark from Petrino: "I don't think I have any brain damage, but that's yet to be seen. If I start not punting at all in games or something, then we've got a problem."

Then again, this might indicate he's been talking to Leach.

Since everybody else is FIFYing that post, thought I'd get in line with my own version.

I agree, didn't the media and the fans want to hang the guy in "Effigy", after he lost to Boise State last year. Didn't he coach the Bulldogs to the SEC East title last year???? :-)

My guess is btwn 12 and 24 for UGA to start out. Which means they can lose 3 or 4 games during the year and fall within the expected range of rankings at the end. Which means (if the above is true) there should be little to no real pressure on the coach this year.

Nah this was written by Bill King. He's a homer but not an arsehole or moronic IMO.

Don't remember any effigies. The media was pushing for it though.
