Laich guarantees playoff berth for Caps

08:32 AM ET 04.05 | Credit Brooks Laich for his optimism. So maybe it wasn't Mark Messier, guaranteeing victory for the Rangers over the Devils in 1994. But [Laich], a respected veteran grinder for the Washington Capitals, became surprisingly brash about his team's hopes of clinching a playoff berth with two games left in the regular season. "We're making the playoffs," Laich said Wednesday on the morning show of Washington's The Fan sports radio station. "We're not talking worst-case scenario. We're making the playoffs." Laich's prediction is not outlandish. The Capitals are in the driver's seat. They are tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference at 90 points with two games remaining for each club.

So as much as it pains me, I am rooting for the flyers tonight. Every other time I have rooted for them they have lost so I am hoping tonight will be better.

It's come to this has it? No talk. Win or tee off. I give Brooks credit though, he works hard every game.

This guy would be the captain on most teams in the NHL. I have no clue why there's not an "A" on his sweater.

Not sure I'd call what he said a "guarantee"....granted the way the Cats have folded like a house of cards lately, he may not have to.

And please Philly....come back angry after that last loss and beat Buffalo tonight and do me and Slappy a favor.... And while asking for favors, Slappy, how about you guys win in overtime and let us take the Division, sound fair enough?

Absolutely. We don't deserve to win the Division. We don't deserve to be in the playoffs either but I still want in. And Phantom, this is my Flyer phase. Obviously I'm rooting for you tonight, Saturday and the first round. If things don't go well I'll root for somebody else if you'll pay me a small fee.

This is what's known as a "Babbling Brooks."

I thought Miller's answer was hilarious. Great, two teams fighting for 8th place sniping each other?
We're going to crawl into the playoffs!
No, WE'RE going to crawl in...
FEH

I think the adversity may help the Caps in the long run, actually....although maybe not this year....maybe this will give them the attitude adjustment they need to regain their form....they'd better...too much talent there....or perhaps Hunter just isn't the answer for this group of players....they tuned out old Brucie, but did they ever really take Hunter into the fold, so to speak-?

As for Florida...if I don't have cardiac arrest tonight, I'll be lucky!

"I don't think he's Mark Messier,"

LOL!

I can appreciate trying to boost/have confidence in your team. However, making guarantees is dangerous. They both have tough roads ahead of them, and I don't really have preference who gets in.

I'll FN you the fee to root for someone else should it come to that. As for the Flyers, I have no idea what to expect. I think they will do their best in the next two games if for nothing else than to avoid being the 6th seed.

Slappy! Going over to the darkside? You have to hate the Flyers at least as much as the Pens?
