08:21 AM ET 04.06 | Often, coaches don't want to watch their team's high-profile defeats. Bill Self, who beat [John Calipari's] Memphis team in '08 and lost to his Kentucky team Monday night in New Orleans, knows the feeling. He said he only watched the tape of one of his Elite Eight losses, and that was in preparation for facing the team again. "In this case," Self said Thursday of Monday's national-title game tape from a couch in the anteroom of his office, "I'm so proud of our kids. I'm so happy for them. They tried so hard, and I haven't watched it yet. I'm going to, and I'm going to soak up every minute of it. The way I look at it, I don't think we got beat. I think we ran out of time."

Respectfully disagree with Coach Self. You got beat.

Yep-admit it and move on.

Cheer up Bill, it could be worse. You could have just had a motorcycle wreck ending up with 4 broken ribs, cracked vertebrae, and road rash. You also could have just been caught lying about having your mistress on the bike and having your AD considering firing you and I imagine a highly pissed spouse. Hide the sharp knives at home.

Yep.

The guys that make a run at the end and come up short always make this statement.

How disappointing. KU, their fans, program, and Coach Self have been rather DISappointing from the Final Four to the National Championship Game and the aftermath has exposed a rather unbecoming and, apparently, very bitter side of the Jayhawk state. i had much respect for them but they keep chipping away at it with every bitter-word, post, and comments like this that are just disrespectful of KentuckY, the BBN, Coach Cal, and most-importantly toward the incredible TEAM of young men that just BEAT KU's Jayhawks and Coach Self. CSelf...you lost. Deal with it like a man and the coach you are supposed to be. GR8T 2011-12 CBB Season! Already looking forward to the 2012-13 CBB Season! Go Big Blue!

Perhaps the result would have been different if one and dones could go straight to the NBA.
It would give teams an even playing field and reserve college for those that actually want and need to be there.

I believe that was the second time self ran out of chalk. UK played Kansas twice on neutral courts and the freshman came out at the end of the game with more points. Memphis didn't get beat either they ran out of free throws. Come on Bill you know at the end of the game you win or you get beat. Could have been the coaching and not the team, maybe it was not the team getting beat, maybe Bill ran all his plays and just run out of them at the end.

Mark it. KU did get beat, rather obvious that. Equally obvious is that Calipari is a cheat, always has been and always will be. UK will be stripped of the title in due course then Self's words will read more like 'we didn't get beat, we just didn't win'.

ditto to DawgGolly's comment!

seriously?!?!? Kansas did just run out of time. Does big blue nation forget about riots after beating Louisville and then have the nerve to call out Jayhawk nation for reacting after the championship? Oh yes you stay classy Big Blue Nation. Just wait a couple years when it comes out there were NCAA violations and they have to vacate the title and Calipari quietly leaves town.

Stay classy? A comment downgrading the whipping that Kentucky gave Kansas. Stay classless Jayhawkers.

You've got to love how all they can talk about is how UK "will" be stripped of a title when Calipari is busted. Considering the fact that he hasn't had a single charge against him, I guess you'll have to stick to hypothetical situations. God knows you don't know what you are talking about, and none of the events that have come to light at either of his two previous programs bear out any of your claims. I'll wait for you to back up your mouth, but I won't hold my breath. There is little chance of the NCAA ever charging him with anything. Meanwhile I'll be busy drinking your sweet tears, you whiny little B$#ch.

#1: I was at the game, and have sinced watched it 3 times. Yes, Coach Self, you got beat rather handily. However, I respect the toughness of your team and overachieving this year.
#2: Where was the KU support? UK fans outnumbered KU fans by at least 10 to 1 in New Orleans. I was shocked. I thought KU loved their basketball.
#3: I was a little surprised at the level of disrespect from the small KU fan contingent. Some spouted off obscene lang at the UK players during the game and were overall sore losers. Cmon man, there's little kids around. They did not once offer any congratulations to the UK fans around them. I was all prepared to offer congrats to them if UK would've lost, fortunately, I didn't have to. Anyway, no ill-will to KU, you're not Louisville, Duke or Indiana, but I did lose some respect after that game and from Self's quotes.

Great season...GO CATS!
