08:24 AM ET 04.06 | Xavier Su'a-Filo, having returned from his LDS mission, is back. As much as Su'a-Filo missed the Bruins, the Bruins missed him much, much more. His left tackle spot lay vacant for two years, emptier than a playground after recess, filled in but not really. With Su'a-Filo starting from Day One in 2009 at left tackle after coming in as the Bruins' top offensive line recruit in a decade, UCLA was safe, secure, comforted. With him gone, quarterback Kevin Prince and Co. had to run for their lives. "The best year we've had since I've been here was the one year he was here," said Prince. ... "That one year. I'm not saying him leaving is the only reason we lost games, but it definitely didn't help.

Friday rant: England - AngleLand... Is it really Angle Land? Yes, the Angles purportedly relocated en mass to "the island" from their former home around what is Angeln in modern Germany. BUT, "the island" was also invaded by Saxons (Saxony, Germany again) and Jutes (purportedly from Jutland - modern Denmark). These did not wholly slaughter the Brettons present. Noooo... Indeed, they assimilated them in odd fashion, adopting some of their language and customs. By the time that the Normans invaded, "the island" was interbred into an amalgam. Oh, and the Normans weren't truly French or truly Norse, either. Whatever their origins, they were an interbred amalgam of their own by the time they crossed the channel. For a time, the Normans remained conquerors, separate in language and culture from those they occupied and subjugated. This did not last. Interbreeding and pidgin language was the outcome - England as we know and spell it today was the offspring of numerous invasions and interbreeding, with a higgledy piggledy language to boot.
