The hottest seat in Anaheim

08:12 AM ET 04.06 | Well, at least Mike Scioscia was dressed for the spotlight. [Scioscia] spritzed himself with SPF 50 sunscreen and rubbed it into his arms, his neck and his face every morning of spring training in Tempe, Ariz., preparing for his long days beneath the Arizona desert sun. Scioscia has to be ready for the intense exposure of this 2012 season, which begins Friday as the Angels play host to the Kansas City Royals in the home opener at Angel Stadium. There isn't another Angel who's going to be standing in a hotter spot, shouldering as much responsibility for the team's success, roasting beneath so many camera lights, flickering flashbulbs and burning attentive eyes, or taking the heat if the Angels don't win it all.

There probably isn't a more secure manager in baseball as Mike.

.....big mike may should not feel so secure after running vlad and napoli into arms of enemy, losing out on beltre, picking up wells, etc....yes, he is the real gm....if the hitting and defense dont get a lot better this year after adding yet another aging vet??....and texas wins again....moreno may flush....

He's a good manager and would get another job in a hurry if the Angels let him go.

The Angels for 95 percent of their history pre-Scoscia sucked. They wanna fire the guy, then there are plenty of other teams that would love to snap him up. I'm a Dodgers fan myself. Wouldn't mind seeing him back in Dodger blue....

Players have to play.

Any suggestion that his job is on the line because of the additions of Pujols and Wilson is just crazy. The two best managers in the AL are Scioscisa and Madden. If the Angels should jettison him, he will have his pick of jobs. For starters, the Dodgers would drop Mattingly so fast that he'd get the bends.

Yep... He's earned plenty of equity from Arte.

Sounds like the Orange County parakeet liner has a bone to pick.

He just signed a 10 year extension recently...I doubt he's updating his resume right now

If they dont win a WS this year he should be done. He has underachieved

Ur an idiot. Fact!

I disagree , If Pujols flops he'll be sweating the most , Boo Yahh !!!!!

April 6, 2012  01:07 PM ET

the angels would be seating in the hottest seat?? right, that's the right call to say, but don't forget to keep things in low profile anter all this its a team work of 25 players not only one player, but yes only one manager, the halos most keep themselfs humble when it has to do with the intensity of the competetion!!!

April 6, 2012  01:08 PM ET

Pointless story; Manager better win or he's on the hot seat? Well, what else is new?

unless the halos use the red sox approach, now that would be defenitive childless, the manager has great acknowledge when things has to do with the baseball game, if the angels owner expects a world series right in this year,,, i would say that he has to be blaffin, this franchise will need more than one year to acomplished their goal!!!!

if the angels don't win the pennant, if the angels fail to make it to the post-season, if the angels fail to become a world series championship, should the angles owner fired their GM, and THEIR MANAGER??? that would be the biggest mistake in the baseball world, as we all know too well the angels owner its better proffesional than the red sox owner, but in a hot race if the owner gets mad he may make a wrong move!!!
