'50-50' chance for playoff system

Posted: Tuesday January 08, 2008 06:53AM ET

University of Georgia President Michael Adams says it's time for the NCAA to replace the confusing and controversial Bowl Championship Series with an eight-team college football playoff -- and he's in position to help make it happen. Adams told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he has written a letter to NCAA president Myles Brand that advocates a seven-game, single-elimination tournament run by the NCAA, which currently has no say in the BCS process. The Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls would become quarterfinal games in Adams' tournament. He says many of his fellow college presidents are ready to support it after years of rejecting a playoff, and believes chances are "at least 50-50" it will pass.

It's Not!

Welp.....then we'd have SEC vs SEC in the National Championship.

Its the Rose bowl holding it up

Considering the "Big" 10 (plus 1) can;t win these games anyway . . . .

Awesome. Another year of Big 10 bashing courtesy of Ohio State.

I would love a playoff system.

PAC 10 and **** 10 are opposed. I wonder why?

Report Offensive Comment

And Go SEC, Geaux Tigers!

Censor hit the word Big

Jim maybe you accidentally wrote **** haha.

If the PAC 10 opposes a playoff they are numbskulls and I am from the West Coast. It won't be just them though I don't see it happening. University presidents and the boards of regents are a bunch of chicken barons.

Although, really, it would be the most awesome postseason in all sports, IMHO. Just extend the season a couple weeks, take the eight best teams by the same format and turn the bowls into the first four sites, then play the final three games in all new bowls. And, uh, the rest of the teams can go play in some other tournaments like the NIT or something.

My Big Ten team beat an SEC team...I have no issues with a playoff

Not going to happen..blah blah blah...Congrats to LSU..The system worked, and they are the champions. Period..Every team knew how it worked, played their season and that is that.;....

The only thing I would strongly encourage them (BCS) to change, is moving these games up into December. The title game seems to be sliding further and further out into January. Pretty soon, it will be the same weekend at the SuperBowl.

Report Offensive Comment

I agree with Truth. It's bad that the Super Bowl moved further, so now I guess the BCS Title game has to too. And the layoff is too long

This whole circus could be wrapped up during the capitol one bowl week....all the pieces are there

Oh..congrats LSU!

I agree with a better playoff system. The BCS system proves only one thing - number lie! I have yet to figure out how the heck you come up with a system that accounts for teams who play a soft schedule vs teams who play a gruling one and the soft schedule ends up with a better ranking. There no way that performance (or lack thereof) by Ohio State should have had them ranking No 1 to begin with. LSU made the Buckeyes look like at 20th rank team at best. Had it not been for the fact that LSU started sitting on the lead late in the 3rd and all of the 4th Qtrs, the final score would have been 60 - 10. Les Miles must be getting soft as he grows old. I'm an SC fan but a realist also. The Trojans would have lost that game but could easily have played far better than Ohio State did.

I agree Truth. New Year's day should be the end of it all, even if they do implement a plus 1 or 2. But it feels nice to have that Crystal Ball back in Baton Rouge.......

Shynloco, you are correct about the schedule. There are certain games or groups of games that can have an effect on the entire season. After seeing the LSU-Florida game (Which I watched several times since, possibly the hardest hitting college football game I have ever seen) I could not help but feel Florida was not the same team after. LSU was certainly not the same team, or defense at least, after Auburn's chop block on Dorsey (the dirtiest play of the year). If you do not have that type of grind it can be a double edged sword. You may be fresher and more healthy, but you certainly are not as prepared for adversity.

Is there a curse over Ohio or is it just that they suck at every sport. Whenever they reach to the finals in any sport they blow it big time.

Report Offensive Comment

A playoff would be great but I am not going to hold my breath on this.

Report Offensive Comment

I don't think they'll be voted into the title game again any time soon.

It'll never happen now or ever until the ncaa can be assured it gets big bucks
