Will Mariners' arena stance turn more fans away?

11:31 AM ET 04.08 | The ensuing decade has seen the Mariners brand fall into increasing disrepair, to the point that confidence in them, and their management, is at an all-time low. That is the toxic atmosphere that existed when Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln sent out his now-infamous letter last week, a misstep that will haunt the ballclub for a long, long time. The letter, dated April 3, cites reasons why the proposed location for the arena, in the Mariners' opinion, "simply doesn't work." Yes, the Mariners raise legitimate issues about traffic and parking. But instead of coming out so strongly against the site ??? a stance reiterated by team president Chuck Armstrong, who said Hansen would "rue the day" he built in that location ??? why not simply list their concerns, and offer, as they did at the end, to work together with the involved parties to iron them out.
