SJSU coach on Hawaii's list?

Posted: Tuesday January 08, 2008 07:14AM ET

Six days after concluding its finest season in history, the University of Hawaii's football program was thrown into chaos with the departure of Coach June Jones and the expected resignation of Athletic Director Herman Frazier. The result could be felt as far away as San Jose State, where Spartans Coach Dick Tomey is expected to receive consideration for one or both of the positions.

It's Not!

Wonder if he's related to Marissa Tomei? Oh....I was never good at phonics!

That would be an upgrade for Tomey. How about hiring the duo of Glanville and Davis. Both are at Portland State.

Man, I don't know about Tomey.

He and Mackovic wrecked that thing in Arizona.

Maybe that was more Mackovic. I can't remember why Tomey got shytcanned.

You are the ONLY cat I know that can say shytcanned, and make it sound classy!

Mackovic was bad everywhere he worked....Arizona...Texas...KC Chiefs...

Thank you, Truth.

I'm working on %$#@, !@#$%&*, and $#@%, trying to class those up a bit too.

Your the man to do it...when you are done, can you take a whack at my wardrobe? Wife tells me Magnum PI shirts are not so cool anymore.....

Wrong choice. Dick Tomey is yesterday's news in Hawaii, and he couldn't take the program to the level Jones did, no matter how hard he tried. He left under not very good relations with UH to go to Arizona, where he didn't do very much.

Go with someone else; but first things first - FIRE Herman Frazier.

Truth: It's the "y" that classes it up.

Observe: "Your shytting me" or "I don't give a shyt".

See? Very "olde English" look. Very intercontinental.

I say get Norm Chow.

Norm Chow needs his chance and since no one else seems to take a chance on him, he needs to press for the Hawaii gig. If he succeeds he can leave for a higher profile program.

I as a UH fan, booster and season ticket holder, do not want to see us recycle Tomey. Don't get me wrong Tomey is a great guy, and good coach, but I figure if we are starting a new era with out JJ, then maybe we should think outside the box and get a new coach, not one that has been here before. Norm Chow would be great, but I do not think he would take the pay cut, so my front runner would be no offense to George Lumpkin, who has been in the UH system for 30+ years, Duane Akina from Texas. I know a switch in gears from an offensive coach to a defensive coach is a drastic shift for some, but our offense will not faulter too much in the coming years just because of our players and recruits. But year after year our defense ,though getting better, has been a thorn in our side. If we get Duane to come on board shore up the defense hire a good OC for the offense I think we would be just fine.

Although Norm Chow would be my first choice, Duane Akina, like Chow, a Punahou grad, would be a good choice, but IMO he's not on a par with Chow. Akina would be my second choice.

As for Chow's pay, he'll be 62 in May. He left USC to go to the Titans to improve his chances to become a head coach, but he's not been hired either at the pro or college level, which is very puzzling considering how some idiots have been recycled. It's because he's Chinese. Therefore, I don't think it will be about the money; it will be about the OPPORTUNITY to come home and rev up the home state program. After all, they just completed a BCS season so the team is strong.
