Tarkenton: Williams 'ought to go to prison'

08:05 AM ET 04.10 | Gregg Williams may have a new harshest critic. Williams remains in NFL exile after being indefinitely suspended for running the team's pay-for-pain bounty program. But one Hall of Famer doesn't think Williams has been punished nearly enough. "He should be banned forever. He ought to be convicted. He ought to go to prison," former Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants QB Fran Tarkenton said of Williams during a recent interview on ESPN Radio in Chicago. "It's all wrong. But I don't blame the (Saints) players, because as players we are told, and we are brainwashed -- not in a bad way -- from the time that we started playing football as kids, your coach is your leader. Listen to your coach. He's the one you look up to."

I think that Tarkenton talks now just to sound relevant; kind of like when he had to give everyone his opinion on that Green Bay QB who went to play in Minnesota following a short stint in NY.

I wouldn't be surprised if 1 of the teams who possibly had a player hurt tries to get something started. It happened last year in Montreal when Chara ran a Habs player into the glass and hurt him. They spent weeks trying to get that ball rolling on assault charges and that was a non malicious, non-preplanned injury. Imagine what a team could try with this. Stuff that happens on the field, doesn't mean it's not grounds for prosecution.

True... I read a rumor the other day, saying the 9'ers were planning on going after his first born son.

Joe Namath thinks Fran is irrelevant.
