08:01 AM ET 04.11 | The Giants walked away from running back Brandon Jacobs, and he'll do his running in San Francisco this season ... probably. [Jacobs'] contract will account for $1.575 million on the 49ers' salary cap, according to a league source. Jacobs last week signed a one-year deal that includes a $150,000 signing bonus -- the only guaranteed money in the contract. Jacobs must make the team to collect his scheduled $950,000 base salary and $475,000 roster bonus, the source said. The 49ers are approximately $4.1 million under the salary cap. The New York Giants released Jacobs this offseason before he was due a $500,000 roster bonus. Jacobs was scheduled to make $4.4 million in base salary with the Giants.

Jacobs could be such a beast if he'd only run north and south. It's a shame he insists on Dancing With The Linebackers.

$150K to not make the team still isn't bad -- at least in the world I live in.

Even IF they were to cut him he would be picked up by another team and the league minimum for a seven year vet is $595,000.

He'll make the team. Someone needs to give a breather to Frank Gore.

He could be a Mike Alstott-type if he'd commit himself to it.

Well its no Lamar Odem but yeah

Have to wonder why the Giants didn't re-sign him if this is all he's getting from the 49ers. Unless they've had it with him.

Because he was guaranteed money if they did re-sign. He isn't worth all that.

Some players just want to play for other teams. Jacobs wants to play for the 49ers, just like Tollefson from the Giants went to the Raiders when given the chance in free agency.

There was no bidding war for the guy. He has had injury histories the last four years and not much production. The 49ers were bidding against themselves and they knew it.
Remember, he is lousy in the passing game.
