After being shut out of the postseason for sins of the past, they are now shutting out the noise that surrounds the much-hyped 2012 team. ... "I think it's a special year for our team when you look at all of the talent and everyone we have coming back," said Matt Barkley. ... "But I don't think you can look forward and say, 'If we don't do it this year, we'll never do it.' That's flawed thinking and the wrong mindset to have. But I will say that I think we have a great shot to do it this year." "It" being the national championship.

Oh boy, FN put up some good CFB threads today!! Razorbacks in turmoil,, Big Blue still sucks,, and the Trojans are mistakenly thinking big again.

"Prep, not hype" is a good way of seeing the situation. I hope USC actually does manifest this. I commend Barkley for dismissing the notion that USC cannot/will not compete in the NCAA penalty years. However, his championship chatter is contrary. My advice to the Trogs - Don't talk. Do.*
*Living this will be hardest for their coaches. The student athletes will have to set the bar and hold LK & company to it.

As much as it pains me to say it, USC was the best playing team on both sides of the ball near the end of last season. Too bad they could not get to post season play. See if they can focus and get that edge back to win every game this year. Is it possible yes, but will require focus, drive, determination, and luck.

You got Matt Barkley - this year's Andrew Luck - a roster chock full of four and five star recruits, and a decent coach. Barkley is a gamer and has gotten better every year. The team will find a solution to its RB problems and the defense will perform as usual. USC is the team to beat in PAC 12 South hype or no hype.
