08:03 AM ET 04.11 | The New Orleans Saints, who open their offseason workouts Monday, will already do so without their head coach. They might not have their star quarterback, either. Asked Tuesday whether he plans to sign his franchise tender so he can be at those workouts, Drew Brees said, "We're continuing to work on a long-term deal." Asked again whether that means he'll be there Monday, Brees gave an identical answer. ... In his first comments since NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell upheld the suspensions of Saints Coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis and assistant coach Joe Vitt, the quarterback said he was disappointed yet confident the team can rebound.

Naaah! That is the last thing the saints will let happen, especially now. That would be a PR nightmare. He will get what he wants, the owner will see to that, and he should.

I'm still lost on the idea that the Saints haven't given him a good deal. Brees never struck me as the egotistical **** that would turn his back solely on account of money. He's given himself completely to that community.
Ok, at least that's always been the PR spin on him.

Reading some of his denials of the bounty situation, I'd say he's a "no-show" in more ways than one.

And that's been the big character flaw. I'll bet that isn't sitting well with the PA either with him as the Saints rep.

The Saints have to sign Brees. Have to. They have enough on their plates without this added question mark and they're morons for letting things get to this point.

No way that Benson let's Brees walk. If he does, that black eye becomes a coronary.

there will probably be a bunch of defensive players missing also after Goodell metes out his punishments...

Maybe it's hard for him to swallow the fact that he alone made his team great and now someone who just had 3-4 neck surgeries with just as many superbowl victories could still make more $$$ than him.

It's imperative that the Saints get this resolved with Brees just so they can get some PR momentum turned in a positive direction.

I read somewhere that as many as 27 players are on the naughty list. That sounds high.
Anyway, all of them wouldn't get suspensions. Some will just be fined. Vilma will probably get the biggest hit.

I wouldn't guess that more than 10 get suspensions, maybe not even that. But, yeah, I expect a lot of fines. The league likes their fines.

Brees is sitting pretty. Not only is he a good QB but he is beloved by the fans. Not signing him to a long term deal would be a public relations nightmare, like they don't have enough of them already. Brees has said that he would sit the season out instead of signing the franchise deal. As a last resort maybe they could trade him to some team with tons of cap room that is in need of a QB?
