Brewers no longer talking with Greinke's agent

08:08 AM ET 04.11 | On Tuesday night in Chicago, Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said he had suspended talks with Casey Close, the agent for right-hander Zack Greinke. "I talked with Casey Close and we decided to let it rest for now," said Melvin. "That doesn't mean we won't talk again at some point but we're going to let it rest right now." That does not sound good for the Brewers' chances of keeping Greinke off the free-agent market after the winter. If he continues to pitch well, the price will only go up and more teams will want to jump in once he becomes a free agent. It didn't help the Brewers when San Francisco's Matt Cain recently signed a five-year extension for $121.5 million.

QUOTE(#2):

The Brewers have likely discovered what a self-involved shrinking violet this guy is.

The Indians will trade top prospects to land this guy.

Lots of teams would love to have such a problem.

Keep him off the pick-up basketball court and he's likely to win a few games for you. And that's without an offense behind him.

Greinke could win 5 Cy Young awards in a row and TRUTH3.0 would hate him still.

He is afraid of contract negotiations.

Of course, because he will not earn them. They will be awared like the ONE and ONLY Cy Young he will ever win, because idiot sports writers felt sorry for him and started a campaign

I remember the year he won it. He was almost unhittable that year.

You don't have to like him. I don't like Obummer. I'm entitled.

LOL

His agent sees $$. So barring any desire to stay away from certain teams, he will get what the market will bear.

Determine which team is to be the next Fox Sports $$$ lotto winner and you'll probably be on target for his next destination.

Milwaukee might be too big of a market for him. He might be happier with a Triple-A deal.

Dear Dodgers: Avoid this head case at all costs!

April 11, 2012  02:56 PM ET

OK Zack, just stay available for nextseason. Arte will look at ya real hard! Go Angels!

Hey. I like Greinke. I especially liked what he said about Carpenter last year, made me laugh. Maybe they should keep him away from news conferences from now on though.
